This title is genuinely a huge step forward for the franchise
one of the main draws of DW was being able to use a while bunch of characters.
completely failure on the devs part in my opinion.
That's probably my biggest gripe is not having a character creator.
I do hope they make an Empires version of this.
The fact that you consider the game not striking your fancy a devs failure is adorable hint of narcissism, but it seems to be more of your issue than devs issue, considering the sales and overal reception of the game.
I played pretty much all Musou games since DW3 and IMO this game is great addition to the franchise. Even though i still consider it a side title rather than main.
Yes, the fact that you are limited to single Original Character with only limited outfit option is a big letdown (at least give it CAW options), but it fits the narrative need of this game and it works with MC having the role of both observer and moving force in shadows.
Aside from this, this game is more unique than many of the previous DW´s. Each weapon has now different mechanics, deeper than DW 2-8´s moveset, DW6 oversimplified movesets and whatever the hell DW9 was supposed to be. For example Sword having moveset like DW 8, while Guandao lets you chain normal and strong attacks together for neverending combo.
Your battlefield companion is now more than just another NPC on the field, or semi-permanent resident of your pockets like in Warriors Orochi games. They can have an effect on how youll play the battlefield, they can affect where you spawn, if they are following you, they are visibly missing on their supposed place so you might need to pay more attention there. And you have multiple synergies that help you with combat situations.
The battlefield itself is revised with interesting additions I trully hope to see in next Empires game. All-out Attack, Large Army and Ambush mechanics make the battlefield feel much more diverse and tactical. I only wish there were more big battles like Sishui Gate or Hu Lao Gate.
In total id rather play one character with diverse moveset than having choice between 90 skins for same 1 button mash DW9 tried to force. But i believe we will get DW 10 game, even if it might be just Empires. To me Origins like testing grounds for new mechanics, wrapped in full fledged game. Also DW was always trying new options in storytelling, from strictly following the ROTK, to each character having its own ministory, both tied to their role in ROTK and history or completely made up, to having alternate version of history for each faction.
I bet 1-2 years max.
$70 🤡
I was counting on this game to deliver and bring me back to the series. Looks like it's not going to happen with this one.
I will wait until they get there heads out of their behinds...maybe DW10 will be good. Until then maybe I will try 8, I hear that one is good
There should have been character creation, or at least several different peacekeepers to choose from. On top of that, there should be armors to collect that change the appearance of your character. The look of the MC is just not for me, and being silent sucks too.
I never really cared about what character I was playing as in previous DW games. It was more like "what weapon do I want to use?" and I chose a character with that weapon. The system in Origins satisfies that need for me.
