PSA - You may be missing pre-rendered cutscenes.
In case anyone else has this issue...

The game consists of both in-engine cutscenes, and pre-rendered cutscenes(effectively video file played in game at certain points)

The problem is that while the in-engine cutscenes play no problem, for some reason that I have not figured dout yet, pre-rendered cutscenes dont play.

This results either in a long black screen before a sudden jump to the next in-game cutscene, or gameplay.

It can be very subtle however, and I personally did not notice until the end of chapter 1. And when I compared my experience with a longplay on youtube, where I could confirm that I was missing like 6 different videos.

A way to find if you have this issue, is if you do not see the main character waking up on the ground next to a medalion as the very first thing when starting a new game, but instead first have a jump-in where the player is having a conversation with "The long haired-man" and "the beareded man". Then you are having the same issue.

Alternatively, check a youtube playthrough if you saw the first cutscene.

Personally, I am on a nvidia PC, I tried alot of different things but so far unfortunately think its a driver issue.

I also have the same issue. still trying to find a solution, but no luck.

I had a similar issue in Fate/ Samurai Remnant game, and was able to fix it by turn of anti-aliasing in NVIDIA sitting or set it to (Application control). unfortunately, it didn't work on this game.

When I enter the game and click on the new game, I cannot see the cinematics in any way, the screen remains black, the music plays and the next thing you see is the gameplay, it is quite annoying and even when changing the settings they are not shown neither the pre-rendered ones nor the ones that are supposed to be in battle

Nope, searched the past 2 days and even messed with the Codecs for webm files the cutscenes come from nothing seemed to work. I ended up doing a full reset of my PC and reinstalling VP9 so everything is from a fresh state. I let you know if that worked for me or not once the game finishes installing

Thank you for the response. True, did the same with the file extensions and codecs from scratch.

Will try to come up with anything on my end too and let you know as well.

INSTALLING VP9 WORKED THANKS HOLY COW

So, I have solved it.

Besides VP9 codec from Microsoft there are others (based on my trials and fails) which needs to be installed as well:

1. VP9 Codec
2. AV1 Video extensions
3. Webp Image extensions
4. HEVC codec extensions (this one in particular has helped in my particular case as it was missing).

All of it can be found at Microsoft Store (or downloaded on GitHub and istalled via PowerShell if you have LTSC Windows).

Hope it helps for other fellas.

Best regards.
