Weakness compared with prior dw games you only have a select weapons to play with and your starting weapon is only the sword but you will unlock more as the game progress.
Since you played dw 4, You gain status attributes for increasing weapon proficiency instead of picking them up when defeating an officer or special character. There's a limit how much you can grind to make your character op but you are still not OP on your current story progress. I'm playing hero difficulty atm. But i think this is the trade off for good powerlevel progression.
There is no free mode and only campaign mode.
Gameplay - Weapons I've played thus far are all fun and I actually play them all differently. It's not the normal 3 or 5 string charge attack all day with a charge 1 to boss juggle once in a while. To be fair, the sword basically is that, which is nice to still have in some form. The rest of the weapons, at least the ones I have access to thus far, are not like that at all. Gloves and Chakrams in particular are quite a bit different from the norm and quite fluid to play. Favorites so far.
Summary Pro/con - Story has more realistic and human characters.
Pro - Weapon quality + overall unique feel to them
Greatest pro for me - # of Troops on screen. Troops vanishing and reappearing around me always felt horrible in the older games. Now, when you're cutting through soldiers like they're a field of wheat, you can actually see a very large portion of that field, instead of pockets here and there.
Pro - All enemies attack you, even fodder.
Con - Weapon quantity.
Yeah that con is one of the most common things I see... knowing KT we can probably expect a number of DLCs to buy more weapons...
But that Pro is a major one. I also really disliked seeing 50ish people on screen that sometimes disappear into the ether.
Thanks!
Awesome, I really hated how DW games were kinda difficult at first but once you unlocked the right weapon there was literally 0 difficulty due to insane power spikes. This sounds much more inline with how I'd expect a powerlevel to progress with gameplay.
cons- people definitely dont like having less choice in terms of weapons, but as someone who only ever really enjoyed playing as a few specific characters and their weapons, it doesnt matter to me. I also agree that letting us customize the player character would have been good, but im here to squee at lu bu and cao cao, so I dont really care too much. also, musou attacks definitely aren't as interesting or flashy as they were before, but I think the overall combat is better anyway.
Cons - Weapons feel... eh, you can't play as your favorite characters, and your protagonist feels super generic with no customization.
Other than that - the usual DW turn off brain and chop chop chop.
