It's set in Ancient China, so I always use Chinese dubs when given the option.

Chinese dub for me, as like Noodles said, it’s set in Ancient China and I love being able to add that layer of authenticity. I’m a language nut though, and love being able to hear the Chinese being spoken. The English dub isn’t as bad as it was in DW 9 but the pause halfway through a sentence drives me crazy, so that’s just another reason for me to choose Chinese, haha. I’d have gone with Japanese dub if Chinese wasn’t available though. So pretty much English dub as a last resort with media for me just in general :flamey_happy:

I've heard that people choose English to not miss out on dialogue during fights, is that important?

If you want to understand the next objective without reading subtitles, yes. Maybe not as much in the later game, when you know all the game mechanics.

I'm fluent in Chinese, so no comment.

Hey Poke, I don’t think it’s a deal breaker or anything like that. The characters are usually saying things like “such and such is moving over here, if that happens we’re in trouble!” or something along those lines. In my opinion it’s just flavor text and for immersion purposes, more than anything. It depends on how quickly you read, as well. I personally have never had much of an issue fighting and reading what the character is saying at the same time. Your mileage may very of course but just wanted to throw that in there to say that it’s certainly possible to play the game and read the text of what’s being said at the same time!

Gotcha! Is the chinese dub good with lip syncing? Since the original dub is Japanese I think

Chinese dub has perfect lip syncing.

Idk about "perfect", but it is very functional.

I second what Mois and Noodles said! It’s the best lip syncing out of all three languages, in my opinion. It’s definitely well done with the matchup of voice and mouth movements. I’m a little on the OCD side when it comes to things like that, so it’s saying something haha :)

At least the English dub, the direction from the Japanese dub directly negatively impacted it.

With voice actors receiving the direction of "you need to say your lines within these timeframes or the lip flaps won't match." So you have awkward, unnatural pauses for some characters that acted on that direction. Or really rushed lines on other characters.

The pronunciations of the Chinese names is a separately matter, but one that probably could have been alleviated with funding and time. But as it stands, if the VA didn't already know how to pronounce a name within the time allotted for the recording, they weren't getting a do-over.

But as someone else in the thread mentions, play in a dub that you can understand in the middle of battle without having to pause or take you eyes away from the action since this isn't a non-interactive show or untimed content.

Currently playing with the Chinese dub. It sounds amazing, but it is hard to keep up with the subtitles during battles.
