* As intrusive as you may find them, I suspect that Omega Force devs learned that particular lesson from from Team Ninja's feedback on Wo Long wherein players complained that they couldn't figure out how to "unleash the power residing in the jade"... because they were too locked-in on the boss to read the button-combo unobtrusively placed on the left-hand side of the screen.
I will say, and I shouldn't be surprised really. I was excited by the trailer because it looked like for the first time we might see actual formations in the troops. But it appears to just be a gimmick with an officers ability on occasion.
And I still want the gameplay to be slower. I want to push the frontlines with the troops, not rush from one officer to the next. Purely why I stopped playing the previous DW games.
Overall I'll get it, but I might wait for a sale. Unless reviews are raving early on.
I just wish it still had co-op as an option, free mode may or may not be returning which will suck if it doesn't, and it feels weird to not have multiple character choices (all of these i deem as negatives against DWO. they're great features, it's sad to not see signs of them).
My negatives aside, game came off great and i fully intend to buy it.
Same with me. I've played DW since DW2, to where I have no problem with how Omega Force wants to go all-in with the CAW system started in DW4, combined with the new combat mechanics that stirkes a better balance than what DW6 attempted with their Renbu system. DW7 started leaning more heavily into the cinematic/production quality of this game with dynamic intros (taken from Yakuza series), such that this game feels like the Elden Ring of this franchise. They have taken the best parts of each DW game, improved on the weaknesses from game to game (e.g. too many characters with clone movesets), and the initial trailer really does represent what this game is going to be. That's the impression I got from the demo.
I will not. I played the demo, and the gameplay is amazing, but the lack of character creation/customization is a big no for me. The Warriors games have been a favorite of mine, but this game is ENTIRELY male-centric, being that there's no character creation/limited(if any) customization. This game is a travesty, from what I've been reading on their website, and should not be released until they address this major flaw in design.
edit:
ow and i just watched gameplay wtf is that push back animation, enemies fly around like confetti people really don't know how to make games anymore.
Melee combat during the three kingdoms period of ancient China (and also during all other periods of history from the beginning of time to the present day), has always been "male-centric." Deal with it. If you want a female-centric game, go buy something based on fantasy anime.
However, for this installment they are clearly focusing on the story\narrative. Let us see what they are planning to drop.
