Dumb Ally AI
The AI is as stupid as always. I love Dynasty Warriors, but how come my 5 Officers lose against 1 enemy Officer. Did they dumb them down even more?
Chose the hardest difficulty, maybe that's why? Even so... that really shouldn't be the case.

Had to backtrack all the way to my allies, who were almost wiped out from one no-name Officer.

Yeah, anyone you aren't actively babysitting gets routed in minutes. The idea of Liu Bei, Zhang Fei, and Guan Yu getting wrecked by one or two generic officers is ridiculous.

Same thing in my playthrough of the demo, and I played on standard difficulty. You either babysit the officers or they die. Which also applies to the leader and all he does is charge head first into the fights, eventually being destroyed if you aren't by his side the whole time. I don't know how Omega Force is still making these mistakes after making 16 quintillion games.

You need to kill the major things that are affecting morale in the battle, if you look at the bar you are fighting on the backfoot most of the time and when you have low morale they will fall apart quickly, but if you manage to flip it to your side you will notice they start moping up everything in their path, the morale gauge is not a cosmetic thing like in the older games, it actually has a major impact.

I'm also pretty sure some of the ally officers getting defeated is scripted, most I've had alive at the end is 18/34

boost morale and they win more

Morale shouldn't have such a strong impact that it takes five named officers relying on it to defeat a single unnamed officer.
It wasn't even that low, slightly below half.

Yeah, the AI for allies is gonna need some huge adjustments or it's not gonna be a fun time. It's like we're going back to the really old DW AI where they would always run to get themselves killed.

Hell, at the level of morale you mentioned, an unique officer should not struggle against an unnamed or even a generic officer. Hopefully it's just a demo thing, and all allied officers are just underleveled for some reason.

in DW8 (7 in Japan) morale bar also effects how good your allies are too! :balloonicorn:

Would you mind a spoiler for the apparently-full-game's Hulao Gate?

Not at all. Go on ahead.

That stage's Yuan Shao does hang back seemingly the whole time, and the first ten minutes of the battle are so much more lenient than the demo that if you're quick enough in taking the first bases on your route, Yuan Shao will be winning when his main camp gets raided by Zhang Liao... who was then defeated minutes later by the semi-generic/semi-unique NPC who spoke first in the demo's first cutscene, Wang Kuang, with no direct player intervention.

Even when Lu Bu got involved Yuan Shao remained in place, and if you don't directly try to stop him, instead protecting the rest of the front line who by now should be clustered together, the Peach Garden Oath Brothers are able to hold him at bay for so long that you should be able to safely handle the rest of the battle. Unfortunately I can't guarantee this because the player chose to actually engage Lu Bu and defeat him, so the rest of the battle played out with the morale buff from that.
