@SirAndy: There's much more this game than "just running away". I'd say it's about the best Survival-Horror game I've ever played over the years. But... it seems you already made up your mind that this game is "lame" so it probably isn't for you.

Granted, there's a lot of running away. I'm a big fan of FPS and being able to defend yourself. But the atmosphere of this game and the menace of the characters gives you a real feeling of what it would be like -- as a real human -- to be caught in a situation like this. No super powers, no handy stash of weapons and ammo. And its hard, sometimes frustrating. I thoroughly recommend it. :-) I haven't played alone in the dark, etc., but in terms of the adrenaline rush when trying to outwit the enemy this game is on par with the likes of F.E.A.R. The challenges can get repetitive in that you will be tasked to do A and B before you can do C and (Gomer Pyle) surprise, surprise, surprise, guess who shows up to make the task more difficult by wandering around looking for you :-) But in spite of that its a very good game and I commend the developers for making such a good game.

Buy it, play it, find out for yourself. I'm kinda confused by what your asking, as if you've never played a survival horror game before, if by "running away" you mean that your always defenseless then yea, that's what this game is about.

Obvious troll, but I'll play along...

Yes, the game is about running away. That's the genre. You have adventure games, where you go on an adventure, as the name suggests. There are puzzle games, where, again, the central theme is puzzles. Then there's survival-horror, which largely revolves around survival and horror, limiting you to what you would almost certainly do in a similar situation - run away, cry, whimper a lot, and then run more. That's part of the draw to the survival-horror aspect: you're lightly armed, or completely unarmed, trying to keep your wits about like, like Joe Everyman, and there's often a nice story to accompany it. It's not called, "survival-machine-gun-shoot-em-up-because-I'm-ultra-hardcore-and-nothing-poses-a-challenge-horror" for good reason. As a matter fact, the game opens up telling you this when it says, in plain English (or one of 5 other languages, in case you can't handle that):

You're not a fighter - you're a reporter. Your only chance of survival is running away and avoiding combat.

Or something to that extent.

You know why that is? Part of that "horror" aspect is relying on your knowledge beforehand that you're not a combatant, you have no defense, you're vulnerable, and you're alone in a place with a bunch of people who want to kill you, and you need to escape.

There. Your troll topic has been addressed, so I take it you'll have no further comments here.

Long story short, the game is not about running, but it's about the things you're running away from
Solaire of Astora Sep 20, 2013 @ 5:54am
The game is about men with knifes running around naked after you in the showers... and stabbing you!
Solaire of Astora Sep 20, 2013 @ 5:54am
And ofcourse the game is about "Ultimate Survival"

honestly why do people keep complaining that there is no way to fight back i mean do you really think if you had a weapon that it would matter just look at the police that entered in the beginning and the walrider played ping pong with them that and walker probably would be fazed too badly seeing as he can just rip you in half >.< and if you could kill the other inmates then this game would lose its horror feel altogether and just be another fps

wouldnt be fazed^

I've come to the conclusion that you just aren't a survival horror type fan, so there's no helping you on this.

I loved the original Alone in the Dark. In fact, i used to work for Infogrames as a programmer back in the day. But even there you were able to fight back to some extent. In the trailers i saw for Outlast there were plenty of dead cops (?) with bulletproof vests. In the real world, those guys should have left a few weapons behind. It seems that part of the sense of accomplishment should come from being able to kick some butt every once in a while ...

@SirAndy: If you need to have weapons or fight in a game before you can enjoy it, and you already think that Outlast is "lame", then I'd say this isn't the game for you and you're best to move on to find a different game better suited to your tastes.
