Being a horror games fan, I hated Outlast first, but NOW I LOVE IT!
This

Okay, I gotta admit.

This game finally got me. And it's truly and really great.

Yes, the jump-scares kinda really put me off at first.
I mean, they were kind of early, I like 'em to be much deeper in the game, when the game has paved it's way into me. The devs placed them near to the start, and that put me off.

But now I've seen the light. This is a game of eerie beauty, scary and strange.. AWESOM!

I do hope they improve the monsters, though, in the second game. Make 'em weirder. WEIRDER. YEAH, WAAY MORE WEIRDER.

So I hereby declare all my previous criticisms null and void.

Hats off to the devs! I wish your sales go sky high!

Honestly, I can see where you're coming from, as there is a lot of jump scares in the game, and if that isn't your cup of tea, then so be it. I enjoyed the game, but i'm not going to bash someone who doesn't, opinions will be opinions, and the internet will be the internet.

Usually if a game, game wise tells you indirectly with its mechanics that you can defend yourself, it becomes less scary. Thats the bottom line for me not agreeing with adding Street Fighter reporter or GI Joe Reporter to this game.

Okay, I bought it and played it. Initially I saw gameplay footage and said that it's a crappy jump-scare feast. Immediately I was bashed by fanboys for being 'uninformed'. Now I'm quite informed, and my verdict stays the same: the game is a cheap jump-scares feast, not proper horror game.

First of all, jump scares suck. They are a cheap, low-end version of horror. And if you make jump scares your main attraction in the game, don't flatter yourselves that you're making a horror game. It's like calling yourself a chef if the only thing you can cook is an omelette. A game made entirely out of jump scares is marginal entertainment for the likes of PewPie (or whatever his name) and similar returded channels.

It's obvious that 'Outlast' devs took an aim which is slightly higher than their budget allowed. Cool graphics and sounds is nice but it's not everything. Jump-scares is also cool (if you don't abuse them), but you don't make a horror game entirely out of them.

Borrowing from 'Amnesia' is lame, because that game barely had any gameplay. It had an idea, yes, but this idea has to be further developed, in order to become a great gameplay design. I like to be able to AT LEAST do something about the situation and enemies, not just run away and hide. This puts off a lot of people, and I'm one of them.

I mean, come on, allow me to at least TRY bashing the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ psycho with a chair, I may FAIL and then run, but at least give me the courtesy! There are many other options for passive combat: set up traps for monster to fall into is one of them. (And I'm not even asking, who in their sane mind would go bargiing into an abandoned asylum without a gun in the glove compartment. In America, that's insanity, not journalism.)

Borrowing from 'Condemned', on the other hand, is a tall bill, because you can't just borrow corridors blocked with debris, you gotta deliver the rest of the fun. And that requires a lot of work.

But, having said that, I still tip my hat to the devs for pulling this off and keeping the genre somewhat alive. Just please next time expand the gameplay options. Not everyone enjoys being a passive weenie.

What is "exhaustingly stupid" is someone suggesting this game is "unique and different". No matter what your opinion of the game is, what can not be denied is that this genre has existed for 15 years or more! Clocktower, Siren Blood Curse (Bella levels), which by the way is far superior in every way to this game. The stalk genre is unoriginal and dull as an entire game. This game is a decent demo at best.

I stopped reading and realized what the OP's message is after i saw the word "fanboy". OP is a joke... Hey OP, would you like some cheese with that whine?

It was a cool game, but i wasn't scared by it at all. I don't mean to make myself sound like a "badass", actually, i'm quite the ♥♥♥♥♥ when it comes to horror games, but i feel like an asylum could have been so much more. ALSO, i was expecting some ninfos at the female ward, but NOPE, just naked machete wielding penis dangling lunatics.

Maybe they raped and killed all the females.

too bad you did not play it fully. Only the beginning is jump scares to set the tone. The most part of the scares come not from jump scares but from expectations set in the beginning and ofc the inmates of the asylum. Plz play it some more.

i agree with you totally. i get somewhat annoyed when something is critiqued before it's seen through. the game wasn't ALL jump scares.

why are so many players so anti-jump scare anyway? technically it's a video game (a.k.a NOT REAL) and the games are as scary as your mind allows them to be. i could just as easlily have played through amnesia with the"'psht. this cheesy game isn't scary at all" mentality and never have enjoyed it. jump scares work well when done right...and outlast nailed them just right. this game has one of the creepiest environs i've experienced since amnesia and the jump scares are heightened by its creepy/uneasy setting. open your mind, let the game world suck you in and stop complaining. embrace what the devs worked so hard to create and you WILL enjoy it.

horror in general is pyschological by nature, so it's up to the player to create the right perception when playing a horror game. crappy attitudes absolutely destroy the experience no matter how good the game is. honeslty, aside from a few MINOR bugs, if i didn't know i would never have thought i was playing an inde game. the AAA quality is there, does your attitude towards the game match it? outlast provides all the tools to feel terror, but only if choose to use those "tools"

I still haven't had time to play past the first ~hour... Some one said allot of the crazy's will just drop you and let you run away... Is this true?

Not all of them are killers. For some of them, youre just in the way and they want you out of the way so they can flee.

Great thing is, you never know who is a killer. I've had inmates run up to my with a club, shout something and run the other way!

You don't own the game...therefore you opinion means nothing.

huh?

No one typed retarded besides you.

And you spelled pewdiepie the same way I did. So i guess you spelled it wrong too!

Also, I have never actually viewed any youtube video featuring pewtard, so yeah... Spelling his name holds little importance in my life.

Now then, finishing my tri-titan ivy-e build on the other hand... I'm going to get back to that...

What are some titles you consider good "horror" games I wonder?
'Blair Witch Crhonicles', 'Condemned' .
Dishonered when you go out of your way to kill.

First off you edited your post to fix the mistake we can all see when you edited it at the bottom but anyway just because someone doesn't have the game in their steam games doesn't mean they haven't played or finished the game. You people that say that just give off so much ignorance. As if Steam is the ONLY way to play pc games.
