Being a horror games fan, I hated Outlast first, but NOW I LOVE IT!
This

Okay, I gotta admit.

This game finally got me. And it's truly and really great.

Yes, the jump-scares kinda really put me off at first.
I mean, they were kind of early, I like 'em to be much deeper in the game, when the game has paved it's way into me. The devs placed them near to the start, and that put me off.

But now I've seen the light. This is a game of eerie beauty, scary and strange.. AWESOM!

I do hope they improve the monsters, though, in the second game. Make 'em weirder. WEIRDER. YEAH, WAAY MORE WEIRDER.

So I hereby declare all my previous criticisms null and void.

Hats off to the devs! I wish your sales go sky high!

Get ready to be ripped to shreds by mouth foaming idiots with IQ less than the average temperature in Wales, but I completely agree with you. It was pretty ♥♥♥♥ overrall, and the AI is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ retarded. I was stuck in a room whilst Wallrider refused to move yet unable to notice me.

Not everyone will have the same interests and likes in games, and I guess it's not suited what you like in a game. If you read the game's description before buying, you'd see that it's not about fighting or using weapons, rather more about exploring your surroundings, with some stealth, hiding and running-away to survive & progress.

Myself, I thought it was excellect and one of the best Survival-Horror type of games I've played, I never seen any "cheap jump scares" at all (some well-done and clever jump-scares, yes).

Hmm... you say your suggestion was it is a crappy jump-scare feast. With this opinion you haven't get yourself more information about that game? If you don't like helpless/cowardly games, as you say, why did you buy that game at all? You sound like a rational person and my suggestion is, thad you would gather more info before buying this game. I haven't played this very far atm, but i'am entertainend. I also know what you wish for a real horror game and that is not only just jump scares. It is all your opinion but your post doesn't make any sense other than complayning about a game you already know its not good enough for you andt get some attention. Oh... you got some.. i replied... ups

p.s.: sorry for my english not my first language

too bad you did not play it fully. Only the beginning is jump scares to set the tone. The most part of the scares come not from jump scares but from expectations set in the beginning and ofc the inmates of the asylum. Plz play it some more.

Read the description on the game's sale page next time before buying. Your complaints were clearly explained there. I don't see how much clearer they could be.

The game's description:

"True Survival Horror Experience: You are no fighter - if you want to survive the horrors of the asylum, your only chance is to run... or hide"

The review of the customer:

"I don't like Amnesia-style helpless\cowardly protagonist who does nothing but run scared. I don't like it, and I don't find it interesting."

So what did he do?

"I bought it and played it."

Sure!!!

OP: "Being a horror games fan..."

What are some titles you consider good "horror" games I wonder? Does it have to have weapons and that you can fight or shoot anything moving that you see?

Know what jump scares may be cheap but that doesnt stop them from actually working. Ive played a fair few 'survival horror' games and soon as you get a weapon to defend yourself the game quickly becomes less scary. They may be scary the first time you face off against a creature or person but once you get past the way they look to the point that its common defending yourself in one of these games then becomes on par with defending yourself against another person, soldier, alien, animal whatever.

I like to be able to AT LEAST do something about the situation, not just run away. There are many options: set up traps for monster to fall into is one of them.
How would you set up traps in an asylum, a place you have never visited before with no materials what so ever?

I dont know about you but if i was in a screwed up situation where i found a ton of buterchered people i wouldnt be all macho and think 'i could so something about', only thing i'd do about the situation is GTFO and when saftly out of harms way alert authorities or whatever.

But all the horror games out there have always pitted the main character in a position where he/she is stranded and must escape just they happen to let said protaganist be able to overcome the odd so to speak.

Okay, so I played it some more. I can't do anything about the ♥♥♥♥♥ roaming around, they keep stalking me, no matter where I hide, this is annoying
Oh scru dat, I'll go read a book instead.

shut doors behind you and dont let them see where you hide. Judging from both your posts to seem like your making complaints for the sake of you dont like the game.

1. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

2. And their opinions should be respected. (it is unfortunate if you are “ripped to shreds” for your own opinion as TheGamerWalkthrough predicted)

I feel your opinion certainly holds validity and you speak for many that feel disappointed by the game.
To start with there is always going to be people that “hate it” and people that “love it” – that’s just how things are.
My hat off to you for giving the game a go.
I would simply like to make comment coming from the point of view someone that enjoys a good horror game.
To start with, I happened to really enjoy it.
I found the “jump scare feast” far better tactic of scaring than any other game I have played in a long time. I admit I actually screamed a few times and it had my heart pounding and even my anxiety level would rise when have to pass by passive inhabitants. I think playing all these others games where you have to face the enemy and fight all the time is just . . . . repetitive and stale these days, I don’t blink an eyelid or feel much of anything anymore. (I don’t feel scared anymore)
Outlast is by far not the usual type of horror game I’m accustomed with, you usually always have something to use as a weapon in all others I have played. But the fact the game developers took that luxury/safety away from me, made me feel helpless and frightened. I personally feel that you couldn’t fight back was a nice change. (now I’m not saying every horror game has to be like outlast, I’m just saying it was a fresh change of pace from the norm)

The only thing that perhaps could be twigged to appease gamers like yourself, I found, when I was running away from hostiles and ended up cornering myself in my panic, I actually lost my urge to flee and turned around wanting to fight back.
Perhaps integrating something like an adrenaline gauge where the running away and the character’s fear pushes it over a peak and you have enough strength to overpower/or use some of endless rubble to smash heads in of the normal hostiles (maybe not fatty) - or even take the weapon off your enemy and use it on them
For me however the fleeing mechanics of the game was more “real life” – one thing I am a girl and I am not physically strong enough to fight back anyone but maybe an angry kitten. I also don’t have a mind for setting up elaborate traps (perhaps throwing some nails on the floor for my pursuer to step on) but if I were in the main character’s situation I think setting up traps would be last thing on my mind -same as doing toilets (lol) (yes laughed at my own joke :/)
Finally my only frownie face is that I feel your comment regarding “jump scares” are cheap was unfair because in my opinion if it invokes natural fear in someone than you’ve done your job.
Anyway as I said before, people are going either hate it or love it and I am certain there is a market for this style of game. I’d happy to purchase another game like this. (I guess this game was just not for you. Maybe consider that new game coming out called “The Evil Within” by Bethesda)
