Very long battery life + 1000 batteries if wanted...
I've already beaten the game without doing this as I just found out how to do this today. Beat the game yesterday in around 5-6 hours. Loved it and probably wouldn't change anything about it either. For those who want to play around looking for stuff while staying away from the baddies, you can have as many batteries as you want and you can make them last as long as you want as well. Go to the start menu, then documents, then the my games folder, then the outlast folder, then OLGame folder, config, OLGame.ini.

Once in there ctrl-f and type in batt and click find until you find BatteryDuration=150.0
I changed mine to 100000.0 for insane battery duration.

Go to find again and find Defaultnumbatteries = 2
Changed mine to 1000

Then right below that will be Maxnumbatteries = 10
Changed mine to 1000 again

exit and save that file, then right click it and go to properties and make it read only then apply and your all set to never worry about battery life again if you just want to mess around AFTER completing the game with stock battiers and stuff like that. If you already know this little hint bypass this, if not, happy gaming :-)

useful, however as you say try and only use it for a second play though :D

Yeah, I completed the game without these...of course struggled because I could never find enough batteries until the latter half of the game. Right now I'm just walking around with full nightvision on and no drop in battery power. Just trying to collect everything to see if I get an achievement or something at the end for extensive searching lol.

You may get more notes when you use your cam-corder often.

Yeah that's why I'm doing a second playthrough, doing both regular cam view and then nv

the only time I was in danger of running out was when that key dropped and I refused to backtrack for about 15min

For some reason I was a major sissy in this game even though I've played many horror games over the last 20 years. Kept the damn night vision on almost the entire time unless I was in a bright open area. I forgot to search for a lot of the batteries too so that was mainly my fault for running out so much lol.

It's not cheating to set the battery duration to something more realistic because the game's default battery life is laughably stupid and serves only to raise the game's level of frustration to the point of being unplayable. Not even the lowest quality Chinese-made batteries will deplete that quickly. I set the battery duration to 1500 which, although still not realistic, is more balanced and gives me the sense of at least a little believability.

Yeah, gonna hold out for the second go round though.

First blind play through the game today and I maintained 5 or more batteries the while time. While batteries do die faster then you could throw them into a fire, I still got enough juice to get through the game without breaking a sweat. The only time I had 5 batteries remaining was in the storm. So over all I kind of feel the batteries in Outlast are alot like the flashlight in Doom 3... well balanced to fit the purposes of the game, even though they were not consistent with reality.
