I played 6 hours. I'd say you play it once and you are done. If you liked it you might give it a second go. And then wait for DLC or prequel/sequel.

And yeah. Playing again with friends is an option, too. As WhoisJohnGalt? said. An old friend of mine did that with all three Penumbra parts. He was always wanted to know how fast I would solve the puzzles. ^^

It depends if you take the time to immerse yourself in the universe of the game via lore. Took me 8-10 hours to finish it and I plan or replaying it with my girlfriend now that I know where the scares are haha.

Yep. I took my time exploring various areas, reading documents, getting immersed into the game, and a few times I got-lost in the dark or I wasn't sure where to go next, and some sequences I had to retry a few times before I got it right... and it took me around 10 hours to play through it.

10 hours? I picked up every document I could find, too. But only played 6. What the hell did I miss? o.0

I guess I'm a slow poke :p
And like I mentioned, I really did get lost a few times for a while though, and sometimes not sure of where to go next (so sometimes doing a fair amount of back-tracking), and some sequences I guess I just sucked at and had to re-try multiple times. Then if I wasn't being chased by some crazy guy, I usually walked, peek around corners, crawled past some baddies, and sometimes just spent hiding too, etc.. But yes, overall it took me around 10 hours to play through the game.

But you OUTLASTed them. That's all that matters.

To be honest, in my opinion there's not much in this game, that would make me take a second run in it. It's a good game, really! But once you've been through the game it doesn't really offer much new stuff.
Like some ppl above already said...it's good for scaring your friends or girlfriend but don't expect a refreshed experience :) (Usually horrorgames lose it's fascination, once you're through with them...the second scare won't be as intense as the first one ;)

it is worth the $20 easily, conisdering you go to the movies and pay $15 almost a ticket to entertain yourself for 2 hours. 5-6 hours gameplay, and a good game to play with your friends after you beat it just having a good time trying to scare each other :D

I beat the game first time through in 5 hours. There's no reason to replay it unless you want to play through the exact same story, and you think maybe you missed some boring, nonessential piece of information. Aside from a few "boo" moments where something jumps out at you unexpectedly, this game was fairly boring and felt like I paid a premium price to watch a 5 hour long B-movie.
