Fix for issues launching the game

We've just activated a new patch to work around the issue some players were experiencing when launching the game.

On some 64 bit systems the game would not launch, showing a brief black window possibly with a cryptic error "0xc000007b".

Most affected players should find that the game now runs with the new patch.

If the issue persists however, an option has been added as a workaround. From the Steam library, right-click on Outlast, select "Properties", then click on "Set launch options", and type in "-32" (without the quotes). This will instruct the game to run in 32-bit mode even on a 64-bit platform, which should work just the same but bypasses the issue with incompatible 64-bit system libraries.

I am on Macbook and it still does not start up after launch. I tried the -32 in properties and still does not work. Any fix for this? I am on El Capitan

When I click on the play button, it shows an image from the game and when it opens, it suddenly crashes after that and I receive a pop-up saying that Outlast quit unexpectedly. I am using a Macbook to play the game and may I know how should I deal with this situation?

Hi, I have still the same problem. My game does not start. If have a process in task manager but nothing happens wenn I try to start the game. No error message, no freeze, nothing. just the process in the task manager shows me that I startet the game... thats really bad....

Try shutting down steam completely and then restarting steam as administrator. This worked for me when I was having that same problem with a couple other games. I do not currently have Oulast yet so I can't say whether it will work for you, but its worth a shot. Considering that it worked with the same problem on other games.

So, after realising I couldn´t start Outlast anymore (it worked fine some months ago) and trying all the advices on this thread, I want to share my (simple) solution:

No matter what I tried, I always got the black little window for a millisecond, nothing else. When running (the Outlast-exe) as an administrator via Steam, I got the 0xc000007b-Error.

But: Starting directly the OLgame.exe in the folder .../steamlibrary/steamapps/common/outlast/binaries/win64 (or win32) worked.
If you already have savegames and want to use them, copy them from "c:\program files (x86)\steam\userdata\xxxxxxxx\238320\remote" into "users\name\documents\my games\outlast\olgame\savedata".

That worked for me - I hope it will work for you, too.

Amigos mi error es que no inicia soy 32bit ya e probado con lo del -32 y lo del cmd pero igual sigue ya e probado parches y crack el update 4 y si me funciona pero el problema es que en steam no me sale que estoy jugando y que no me dan los logros alguna solucion?

The game was not launching for me here either, here is what I did to fix:

I launched the game directly through the "OutlastLauncher.exe" in the game folder and got an error message saying something about "MSVCR100.dll".

So then I went on the internet and searched for this file and solved the problem by reinstalling Microsoft Visual C ++ 2010 Redistributable Package for 32 and 64 bits.
