Outlast Ledge Jumping- Female Ward
Hello all,

Wondering if you could possibly assist me/have any suggestions. I am at the part where I am trying to find Father Martin inside the female ward (right after the escape from Mad Doctor W. and the working my way through the courtyard). I acquired the key for the door to the staircase alongside the dead elevator and made the jump over the crumbled section of the stairs. I then follow the blood, as instructed and am forced to creep out sideways along a ledge with my back against the wall. The only way forward is to creep along the ledge and jump from a stand-still to the ledge opposite. However, I've probably done the jump some 50-odd times. The result is me jumping, not catching the ledge and falling on top of the patrolling crazies who proceed to beat the piss outta me. Also, I am positive it is the correct direction to go: blood trail leads there and there are no other alternative routes. Any ideas?

I came here for help for the exact same jump and saw your post >_>. I tried that jump about a dozen times before succeeding; it's easily the worst jump in the game up to this point, and the only one that's really given me trouble. Simply holding W and pressing the spacebar won't cut it.

Here's what I did. Note that this might be a bit excessive, but it works:

- Go to the very end of the ledge prior to jumping;
- Put down the camera (there's sufficient light to see what you're doing);
- Hold down SHIFT and W simultaneously. This will not cause you to fall;
- Press and hold spacebar; don't let go till you've climbed up.

That should cover it. Good luck!

Thank you very much for the advice. This jump has been frustrating me for quite some time. It's something they really need to fix. I will let you know if I succeed when I play the game next. Thank god I'm not the only one with this problem X).

Doctor W.? You surely are not meaning doctor W for Wernicke are you?

Success! Thanks cyric. After a couple of attempts using the methods you prescribed I made the jump. Onward and upward. Thanks a bunch, this problem was making it impossible to progress in a game that I have loved so far.

Tolga,

I was refering to the doctor who rescues you from the gang of crazies using a dumbwaiter, only to punch you out and then cut off two of your fingers. He had a semi-german accent and glasses and seemed like the most sane person so far besides Father Martin. You end up killing him when he gets caught between the elevator (going down) and the door. Was it wrong of me to assume that this was Wernicke? I thought Wernicke was a german scientist?

It's not and his accent to me was more reminiscent of irish.

If you read the documents you find leading up to that point you learn he is a different "doctor" stressing doctor because he knows almost nothing about medicine, the human body, or even biology if you read the documents. He really was just a psychopath to begin with

Irish actually might make more sense now. I had a hard time determining what his accent was because it seemed to only be present a third of the time that he spoke. I also do remember reading something about a "doctor" stating that he is now sure that people cannot live without both kidneys. So that makes more sense now. Thank you for correcting my ill made assumption.

No you see, it's a long story... CIA hires Nazi scientists to prevent them from working for possible enemies after WW2 - Operation 'Paperclip'. Wernike is the one to start about the Walrider myth in the first place so he was at the head of it all when Murkoff Industries hired him. He does not appear until the end of the game. The douchebag that cuts our gaming fingers is Dr. Trager, he is a mad man that thinks he is a doctor.

Finished the game at this point and read all remaining documents. Everything makes sense now. Thanks for helping me get past the ledge jump and for explaining the stuff I didn't understand at the time!
