I'm terrible at jump scares, is this game for me?
I really like Evil Within, and i did survive Amnesia A Machine for Pigs. This looks interesting and its pretty cheap now. Only one thing tho. I hate...hate jump scares. I prefer atmosphere instead of First person jump scares.

The overall atmosphere is asesome, the game has jumpscares...but not a jumpscare with nothing happening. The only jump scares are in the beginning of the game I think...after that a jumpscare is followed up with a chase or you needing to run/hide.

this is probably pretty subjective, but it found outlast to be mostly, if not completely about jumpscares. but then again i have the same opinion about the evil within, so if you liked that, i'd give this one a try.

Evil Within had jumpscares? O_o

That being said Evil Within wasnt scary at all for me, and its combat heavy, this seems to be 0 combat

Outlast delivers zero combate, you cannot defend yourself at all, you can't even push an enemy away. That being said outlast relies on jumpscares MANY times. Like, right at the beginning when you enter the asylum they throw two cheap jumpscares right in your face all of the sudden. In my opinion it is a good game but not a good HORROR game, it got boring really fast and very repetitive IMO.

from the gameplay aspect you can't compare the 2 games at all. as racistcoffee already said, you can only hide from and avoid enemies. if the second amnesia game is anything like the first one, it should be pretty similar to outlast in the way it's played. i really liked outlast's setting at first, but the incredible amount of jumpscares (even ultra lame ones like steam suddenly starting to come out of a pipe right as you walk past it) and the story getting more and more stupid actually made me wish the game was shorter, which is rare for me.

Outlast have very good jumpscares, some unpredictable.

You will scare with this game, believe me. ;-)
Honestly, hating jump scares is all the better reason to invest in a game with jumpscares! You'll end up having a more terrifying experience. ;P

But in all seriousness, I would not call Outlast a jumpscare game. That's more like FNAF. Outlast has it's pop out moments but it mostly relies on putting you into very intense and horrifying situations, whether it be getting tied up by a mad surgeon or being trapped in the sewers with a gigantic psychopath, it will find some way to freak you out.

You absolutely cannot have a horror game without jumpscares. Yes, atmosphere is even more important, but it means nothing if you can't follow it up with the tension of when a jumpscare will come.

having jumpscares at all and solely relying on them are two very different things. it's true that most horror games have at least a few jumpscares, but the good ones are still scary and tense in between. in outlast they are just so overused that they wear off and even get annoying.

Outlast has it share of Jumpscares, (It would be impossible to find a horror game without ones) But overall what makes the game scary is its atmosphere.
If you like ambience, then buy this game

This game has a lot of atmosphere, but it's full of jump scares as well.
