OUTLAST MULTIPLAYER - COOP ( YES ITS POSSIBLE! ) WITH PROOF OF CONCEPT!
Hi Im Snake4life,

My goal was to establish a connection to another instance of outlast ( Unreal Engine 3.5 is great because even the Singleplayer version is running on a listen Lan Server! )

OK what I got so far:

-starting a dedicated server instance of outlast
-starting the client and connect to the server

Whats the problem:

-Server is crashing after Spawning!

Here is the Setup you can see the Server running in a Terminal and the Original Outlast client on the right side connected to the server.

How I did this:

To start the Server add these parameters to he Outlast exectuable:

YOUR FOLDERS TO OUTLAST\Outlast\Binaries\Win64\OLGame.exe" server Sewers_01.udk?DEDICATED=true?bIsLanMatch=0?bRequiresPassword=0

And to get the Client connecting to the server + log window:

YOUR FOLDERS TO OUTLAST\Outlast\Binaries\Win64\OLGame.exe" 127.0.0.1 -log

OK great! Outlast has a build in dedi Server in the Gamefiles. But I think a second spawn is missing on every map thats why its crashing.

I want to drop this in here to let you guys know about my findings, maybe someone is more experienced in map editing or unreal engine itself to get this working. I wish I could play with another friend in this game SOOOOO MUCH!

And I think its only working with the 64bit binaries. 32bit was giving me strange errors.

Here some unreal engine docs:

https://docs.unrealengine.com/latest/INT/Programming/Basics/CommandLineArguments/index.html

Hope you guys keep this alive!!!!

If it ever does come to anything, I would be honoured to try it with you, if that idea sounds good.

Before games did prove that co-op horror games can indeed be scary, Amnesia - The Dark Descent community was quick to tell how it isn't a good idea because another person would ruin the horror experience. Then again, we mainly get playable monster co-op games so yeah, they might be half-right.

While I don't particularly like Amnesia as a horror game and have never found it scary, they are right that it significantly harms the horror experience. It's a pretty common thought among a much broader group of people than fans of one specific game that horror works better alone.

Honestly i think ruining the experience for each other is the best part.
there are some people that need another person to even play this game because they are too scared lol, thats why I even tried to get this working
