A troubling question that has no answer. (spoilers_
This is something that I've always been annoyed by. Throughout the game, you see the Walrider plenty of times. He's outside just floating about when you are outside. He glides right through you when you open a gate.

But he is never really a threat until you are trying to kill Billy. Now, that part is understandable. You're trying to kill the person who allows the Walrider to do anything. But why did he not kill you at any time before then? Whistleblower shows that he doesn't just kill people who are immediate threats, he seemed to just kill anyone.

Is there any real answer? Hell, he saves you from Chris Walker even! Walrider has a split personality.

Billy is mentally ill. Maybe he wanted to play around with Miles first before he kills him^^

AKA - The story couldn't progress if Billy decided to kill you right away like he did with countless other random people.

Billy's weak state allowed the walrider to have some control and stop himself from killing Miles.
Then Miles became the Walrider's new host.

But...why Miles of all people? Again, this makes no sense.

Everyone else in the Asylum was either crazy or worked for Murkoff.

That explained nothing. So, Walrider kills a patient who is already crazy because...the Walrider is just a jerk?

The Walrider escaped, and billy had full control, but after awhile, he gets weaker, so the Walrider has to find a new host and make sure he kills Billy and let him take over the Walrider.
Also, the Walrider cannot live very long unless he has a host.

Either you are terrible at explaining, or I am just not understanding. If the Walrider kept him alive just so he could use him as a host later on, then there was no reason to try and kill him when you were trying to kill Billy.

Talking about how the Walrider tried to kill Miles for a bit?
There are 2 reasons that could have happened
Billy wasn't as weak, so it had no reason to find a new host.
or that the Walrider mistook as a Variant.
Also...Dexter!

The only time the Walrider really tries to kill you is when you are trying to kill Billy. At this point in the game, the Walrider COULD have used Miles as his new host, since he does that in the end anyway.

SO...he basically just avoids hurting you throughout most of the game for no reason at all and even saves you when he had no reason to. Plotholes ftw.

Red Herring?
Outlast's story isn't perfect.

It wouldn't be too hard for the devs to come up with a reason though. Or the fact that Chris Walker can teleport...

He's strong, he can punch walls through.
Let me explain things....

1- Chris walker is trying to shut down the facility in reality he is trying to help contain it he has no sympathy for anyone in there...With that being said he also has knowledge of the facility he isnt teleport he just knows the layout... knows the shortcuts and its secrets... so its not teleporting its just he knows the place well....

2- The walrider your trying to give it a purpose... you need to take a step back... the walrider is more then science or mysticism he is a combination a culmination of both but the initial host was mentally ill.... when you give someone who is mentally ill a power like that you are left with chaos no real organization... the walrider and billy are initially as one... the walrider while under influence of billy is unstable hence when he wants to kill he kills when he doesnt he doesnt... again its chaotic this is an experiment....

As it progresses billy starts to realize your getting close and at this point the walrider is starting to branch off into its own entity....you now have two things trying to control the walrider... billy and the walrider itself developing its own state of being....when you breach the lower level of the facility the walrider now knows what you are going to be doing....you are now a major threat... and the walrider which is now starting to develop its own state beyond billy knows what your doing....

Both billy and the walrider are now fighting for control of basically itself.... so again your thrown in chaos cause the walrider wants out of billy but billy doesnt want to lose control of the walrider....

When the walrider kills chris walker.... this is because chris walker would have made short work of the tank housing billy and ultimately the walrider.... as chris walker was percieved as an initial threat he was removed.... the walrider and billy at this point are fighting desperatly with eachother for control... thats why the walrider will dissappear then come back... you have to understand though you have to read beyond what they show you... only with billy destroyed can the walrider take a new host... when the walrider is trying to stop you from switching off the computer this is billy in control... he has now realized what is happening...when the walrider stops attacking thats the walrider trying to assist you with the termination of billy.... because it knows you will become a mobile host... and it will no longer be confined to a tank... after billy is disposed of the walrider has seconds before his being will collapse... this is when he combines into you.... and now again the party you need to realize is the walrider and miles are fighting for control... neither one is gonna be able to have full control so thats where it is left
