i'm the only person who think this game is annoying and not scary?
the game start really really good but as soon you go to the security room the game become really shallow and boring... Man, i hate when i have to activate something and it's always 2~3 keys and always with the pigman (not manbearpig) on my six... After 30 minutes, i started go straight to him, F this ♥♥♥♥ man...

It wasn't scary at all for me, but things got pretty intense at times.

I forget where I made it to. It was the 2nd enemy encounter maybe? The gameplay got repetitive, fast. Doing the exact same things multiple times within the same encounter. The story and art style were so.. generic, none of it kept my interest.

I love what they managed to do with the game's visuals and animations. It's all, extremely well polished and impressive. But past that, it feels wasted due to the weak creative direction.

Yes, I felt they missed the mark with those sections. While it may be scary the first time where you run away and hide, it ceases to be scary when it's repeated over and over. It just becomes an annoyance. The main mistake was these "fetch the key" sections that require you to creep past an enemy who instantly kills you. If he sees you, you either die and repeat it or run away and hide, then he goes away, and then you try again. It's not scary, just frustrating and boring. You know what you have to do and where the key is, and you know what the danger is. It becomes more of an obstacle than a scary thing.

I was really disappointed to see that one of the achievements they added was to finish the game on insane mode. That is just going to be no fun at all. Not even any point in trying. I know I'll die to one of these enemies when trying to get a key, and then I won't want to start again from the beginning.

I bought the game yesterday. Initially I was scared due to not knowing what to expect, but I agree. You become accustomed to it and it gets predictable.

What I like about this game, is just how it builds tension and makes you worry about what there may or may not be. Of course, once you die a few times, or if you don't have volume up or play in the dark, then the scary part of it, does sadly die down, but still, first play through, is really tense.

There are very much jump scares, this is good game, but if you wanna scarier game you need to play penumbra or amnesia. Only one big scary moment was where those 2 psychos with knifes came to me in dark room where I need to jump out of window. Weather effect and flash gave total scare effect when one of them walked right to my direction! But thats all. I realy dont know why some people get scared of this game, probably some younger players.

If the whole game could be summurised up by the first 10-20 minutes then Outlast was bloody fantastic and had masterful atmosphere and tension building, sadly, that would be ignoring the fact that everything after the highpoint of the opening is more or less a never-ending downward spiral.

Put bluntly, this game was too long and couldn't think of any way to unnerve the player besides shock gore (I've played Splatterhouse, I've seen worse) and pushing the player into frustrating chase segments away from what most of the time is an instant kill death cutscene.

This game suffers from a similar problem as Slender and Saw in that once you die enough times, the previously unnerving and creepy atmosphere gets replaced by a tedious and tiring feeling of trial and error as you find the one (and only one) path that allows you to run past every threat.

Scary is basically a subjective term. Some people are scared by spiders, other eat them for lunch, literally. Some people are afraid of heights, other do skydiving for fun. Some people find Silent Hill scary, I literally fell asleep on my first playthrough. For me Outlast was scary as hell, for you it might be like playing Barbie Horse Adventures, ie. the other kind of scary. To each his own.

back in the days i remember play condemned and just ♥♥♥♥ on the pants all the way until the end... But this was a long long time ago.
Amnesia was the last one that i felt some fear... Even playing that ♥♥♥♥ on daylight, i was scared.
Outlast is just some jump scares and nothing more, it get boring really fast, it's better to die than run to hide because it's take SO MUCH ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TIME. I lost about 20 min just to turn on the sprinkler because pigman keeps on the way -.-
I think that the only thing on this game that make me uneasy was the twins @_@
Clearly no one has played a Survivial Horror before, a survival horror is played as the game genre is said, it's survive first, get scared, stressed, later.. Horror isn't all about being scared, and you clearly just don't know what the genre even means, is Resident Evil 1 on the Playstation scary? No, it isn't... So stop acting like this game is bad, the reason people enjoy Survival Horror is because of the adrenaline you get from being chased, the feeling of your heart pounding as an enemy gets close to you when you absolutely KNOW you won't have time to run or fight back..Oh and do not chat ♥♥♥♥ about Chris Walker.. To him you are just another Little Piggy, ready for slaughter.. Oh and clearly you haven't played the DLC either. Get your facts straight and actually know what you are talking about before you start ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

He is implying that if you only look at the bad points of a game of course you are going to continue to see it as bad, seeing as Outlast has more good points than bad (depending on whether you are ignorant or intelligent) then if you look at the small things you consider problems then it's as I said before.. Garry's Incident did not have ANY Good points whatsoever, so using that in this debate is just the same as me saying "You don't agree with me?, I should just kill you then" You are making an extreme and unnesary comparison. Just as I did.

Man... i told, the first 10~20 min are amazing, after it's just a boring chore. There's no fear to be chase by pigman all the time. First time, ok... 20th time, ♥♥♥♥ that. Oh yeah, the doctor that i can't remember the name now... That part was ok i thought "well now they nailed it..." But no. after that shocking scene he just became another annoying stupid monster. I just don't understand why people get só scared with this game... This kind of people should had died on the amnesia age. '-'
