Even on the hardest difficulty the AI can't catch up with you if you run from them.
If you turn down a hallway that leads to a dead end and crouch in a dark corner the enemy won't be able to find you and will give up on looking for you.
There is absolutely nothing scary about an enemy that's too blind and slow to see you or catch you.
It takes place in a cliche asylum and most of the "insane" residents arent very convincing.
all in all this game seems very uninspired.

I don't know why anyone would be scared of this game. unless you're too dumb to run in a straight line from your pursuer in this game there's really almost no threat of dying.

There's a difference between "it's a ♥♥♥♥" and "i don't like it". Same here, "i haven't been afraid by that game" and "that game isn't scary". Read your first post once again, and don't be dishonest.

The topic continues.... but no one is right or wrong.

It's all down to personal experience with "horror" in general and the level of immersion that a player can get within the game - everyone's experience will differ.

In fact Valve did an interesting commentary on I believe halflife 2/episodes as to how they changed chapters to keep the player interested and also to have some "wind down" puzzle type levels after a lot of combat etc.

So what's my point?
Well I can see that if a game like this one doesn't take enough care in keeping the game fresh throughout, it could be seen by some to become very linear and predictable. I tend to think that's what the author of this post is getting at?

Outlast was my first actual horror game (besides a couple of horror maps for HL2 and Slender, and to be honest, I enjoyed it. I thought the ending was really crappy, but ultimately, it was enjoyable to say the least. However, I did find towards the second half of the game, the A.I. of the enemies wasn't exactly believable. Run away, find a dark corner or hiding spot like a locker or under a bed, cross your fingers and hope they don't find you. Like you said, the enemies can't catch up to you if you just keep running. That, however, doesn't mean it's a bad game. I mean, there were parts that truly scared me, and throughout the game my hands were sweaty and shaking as I played. Honestly, the only crititism I have to give is the enemy A.I., the ending, and the game's length. To me, Outlast was worth playing and was a great game.
