Recommended gamma setting?
Can someone who hasn't changed the gamma please tell me what the default gamma setting is? I played around with it a little but forgot to remeber the recommended setting. And when I restore the "default settings" the gamma isn't changed.
Since this game obviously lives from atmosphere first and foremost I want to play it with the correct settings to make the most of this experience.

When you change the gamma, the brighter you put, the more you'll see the weird ass face guy. You gotta put the Gamma so that you can barely see it.

But as long as it's not over 50% and neither under 25% it should be alright. You want it to be dark and scary, but not so dark that you won't even see the jumpscares, nor the enemies, nor the place.
Alright, [Salty] FetishPharah. I was already aware of the things you pointed out but nonetheless: thank you very much for the info!
Does anyone else know the exact value in the gamma setting that you get when you start the game and don't change the gamma at all?

It's in the middle. Games always put it in the middle, and it's always the best in the middle (On amnesia, I have put it on 0.95 tho because I thought it would be scary. It seems like it's not, because I kinda like the dark places because I can hide in the shadows (well, maybe not in Amnesia because they say a Shadow is following you, so yeah...)

Yeah, I like the darkness as well and I love it when a horror game is creepy and scary as ♥♥♥♥. That's why I wanted the gamma setting to be perfect. But like you said somewhere in between 25%-50% should be okay, probably a little below 50%. So, looks like soon I'm going to explore Mount Massive Asylum and having a good time.
Now that's funny! That is actually the first time a comment or post of mine got auto-censored (for using the f-word). I think it is totally ridiculous when governments or so-called authorities try to 'teach' you what is correct speech and what is not. Next thing they do is 'teach' you what is correct thinking and what is not. I am a free man and I talk how I like. So, for ♥♥♥♥'s sake ♥♥♥♥ the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ censorship! :-)

Btw you can hide in the shadows in this game (but don't use night vision of the camera, cuz that's basically a flashlight, you'll make everything around you vizible for you, and make yourself visible for enemies too. So yeah, it's better to just stay in your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ corner.
Ok, thanks for the advice. I'll bear that in mind once the beasties show up.

you didn't reach it yet? Where are you at rn? Have you encountered your first jumpscare?
Well, like I said I played around with the gamma settings a little, because I wanted to see how the game looks with different settings. Let's say so far I only got a sneak peak of the game and yes during that sneak peak I also encountered my first jumpscare. It totally took me by surprise and was actually quite intense. I love that in a game.

Then I waited for someone to answer my question in this thread and in the meantime I started another game (Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth). Right now I am totally in love with that game and I think I'll finish it first before I'll enjoy Outlast. You know for a game like Outlast I gotta be in the right mood to fully enjoy it. And the next time I am I will play it again from the start and probably finish it as the playtime is just at about 4 hours. At least that is what I read in some reviews.
