Read If Game Won't Boot
If the game won't boot, you may need to install the VS 2012 Redistributable package.

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679

Steam should install it automatically, but if it doesn't try the above link.

You can also try these steps if you still have a crash on startup.

In your steam library right click on Pinball Arcade.
Go to properties
On the General Tab, click Set Launch Options
In the text box add the following string
forcexaudiodll
Click Ok then close.
Run the game.

I have the same problem, and I'm already having trouble with one other Steam game I have, not related to the Pinball stuff...

Confirmed same problem occurring on DX9.

Ran the update (not that I had a choice) and now DX9 won't open for me, either. Just opens a black screen then goes back to the desktop. DX11 works but my computer isn't really good enough to play in DX11. Is it possible to turn off updates for certain games? It seems Farsight breaks something every time they try to fix something else.

I'm having the same issue as well on DX9 after the update...black screen and then closes out to desktop. My computer doesn't seem to be compatible with the DX11 setup. It just comes up with a black screen when I run it that way.
I just got back from trying to start it in Cabinet Mode...which I advise you all NOT to do just yet.

I ended up getting a mixed logo screen, and since I was in Full Screen mode, I was stuck, like it crashed on me. And the reboot took FOREVER until I could finally log on again (though that may be from another matter altogether).

Hoping this gets fixed soon...
Having issues here too. Got the updates and suddenly the DX9 version is busted. I can play the DX11 version fine, but it's laggy and there's no sound when I go fullscreen.

It's sort of a good thing I also have the Switch edition, though I'll miss out on the WMS tables...

EDIT: Okay, downgraded the MSAA samples and Anisotropy to 1 and the game's running at a good fps. Fullscreen audio is still borked as far as I know, though.

I had the same problem. I can actually run the game if I right click on it and choose "Run Game DX11" or something similar. However, the balls now move as slow as molases. Hope this "update" gets fixed soon!

Another user here with a busted DX9 engine since the update today (June 11 2018). DX11 works with most games, but a bit dicey.

Same here no DX9 launch... DX11 will launch but runs slow...always has for me; my laptop does not have a separate graphics card is the reason I believe.

Male Voice: OH NO...!
Female Voice: HAHA.... (Bride)

EDIT: FIXED...Thanks Farsight...!

Now neither DX9 nor 11 will boot for me.

Sorry chaps, the latest update was no problem for me. Win 10N with media updates i5 64 bit processor; if this helps

Can we get an update that makes this playable again?

Edit: I've discovered the issue on my PC. If I boot Netflix on one screen BEFORE I boot Pinball Arcade on my other, Pinball Arcade won't boot AT ALL. I have to boot Pinball Arcade first, then start Netflix.

Neither DX9 or DX11 work for me. WTH?
Verified the game content and it says everything is fine.
I just get the black screen like everyone else.

The solution for me is not to run a certain mod for the game because it is outdated. Have you tried closing every Windows application and maybe disable your antivirus before starting the game?
