The "electric fence" theory...
That northern boundary is about 140 paces across, from the West cliffs to the East cliffs.
I can walk along it, bump into it, run into it for most of its length without any consequences.
If I walk along that line starting from the East end of the boundary, I get about 60 paces -- about 2/3 of the way across the runway -- before the "shots" start. If I begin walking from West side, I get about 25-30 paces before the "shots" start.
So the KILL ZONE is about 50 paces long and about 10 paces wide.
Here's a rough map. WT = inaccessible WatchTower. X's mark where the boundary crosses the runway.

Thanks jimco. That must be it. I'll check it out.
I'm sure I killed one ghillie-suited sniper in the NW corner, and two on the East cliff. Looks like I missed one.
Again, thank you!
Anyway, maybe I'm somebody with too much free time, misspent, bugging about this. Maybe a re-install will sort it out.
I appreciate all the comments and especially the screenshot you shared, jimco. Thanks.
Sorry to hear that you are still having trouble. It has to be a sniper you have missed to die so quickly in his zone of fire. That screen shot was taken while playing in "Elite" but sniper placement does'nt really change that much in the different level's of difficulty on any given map as far as I can see having played all maps up to "Authentic".
Have you tried different directions of approach ? or going straight to their position avoiding everything by stealth ? long distance binocular search from the opposite side ?. I know it is frustrating but keep looking for a way.
Good Luck and post when you succeed.
Also if there would be "hidden snipers", you would first hear them spotting you and then shooting you... as always. However you are correct though, you really do have too much free, misspent, time. It should be rather obvious that the devs wouldn't just let you wander off too far, out of the map I mean.
Three or four goes at it at Elite, and that's when I posted the video. Three more goes, at Cadet, Marksman, and Elite, since you shared the screenshot. And damn, that 2nd sniper in the NW corner just does not show up, no matter where I go on map -- from the top or the base (like your screenshot) of the Control Tower; all the sniper nests and the south watchtower; every which way.
Two snipers on the East cliff. Only one in the NW corner. And death in the mysterious kill zone. Every time. So far.
Another try just now. Got to the location of your screenshot (base of Control Tower) undetected and no kills. What do I see? Only one:

From nearby, I can spot the two snipers on the East Cliff:

And from the top of the Control Tower:

Along the way, undetected and no kills, I stepped into the kill zone and took one hit. Blam! Notice the single ding to my health meter.
It doesn't effect completing the mission. It's just strange.
It almost seems like your invisible fence theory about the kill zone might be right. I never see or hear any indication of where the "shots" are coming from. But I don't have to be right up against the boundary for the "shots" to start. And why just that section of the boundary?
Anyway, no big whoop really. Still a mystery.
