Puzzled by sniper nests
The sniper nests are clearly a major element of SE3. But unlike in SE4 you don't have suppressed ammo, and these nests have no sound cover except maybe the *very* occasional plane zooming by.

They seem to be completely useless and in SE3 it is much easier to go commando and knife or silence-pistol kill most of the enemies.

The alternative - to fire a single shot from a sniper nest and run away to lose the detection before returning to it - is boring as hell and incredibly hokey and totally defeats the point of a sniper nest.

What am I missing? Is there a secret to using the sniper nests without getting spotted? Or am I right in just getting into them to make them count then go kill the enemy a different way?

Yeah, many sniper nests seem to be practically useless but some do have generators or other sound-masking nearby. They are usually good vantage points though.

You need to find all sniper nests for in-game stats to have 100% campaign completion, and long shots are available only from those nests I believe.

Otherwise, you don't have to use them this game is basically Spec Ops Elite rather than Sniper Elite, too much close range encounters to be truly sniper game

All of your comments are exactly what I was starting to feel. It just seemed wrong, thus I asked.

Thanks for the confirmation.
