Notable exceptions are the British Welrod pistol and the High Standard HDM pistol employed by the OSS. Both weapons are present in Sniper Elite 3, although the latter only through DLC.
If Sniper Elite 4 has such nonsense, then it sounds like they dumbed down the game to make it more accessible for the not so smart players.
And its true, acatualy there was no such thing as Suppresors, but instead Scilencer. They were usefull but slowed the bullets, so its only used for more High powered Rifles.
I'm not saying there were no silenced rifles and submachine guns at all during the war, but they were highly experimental, did not see much active service, and for the most part did not work well (they weren't much more quiet, they had a much reduced range, and/or they led to the gun being severely damaged over time).

As mentioned in the videos the .45 ACP is inherently sub sonic, unlike rounds like the 9mm parabellum. 1911's still kick like a mule when you fire them though.

Considering the scope of the Sniper Elite games, it would make sense that Fairburne would have access to some of these things, as he is a highly specialized member of British Naval Intelligence, probably under the OSS, and it is a work of fiction based upon some real life thing.
These guns on the other hand, are real.
Not very commonly issued, and could lead to the suppressor being worn out, but the rubber wipes in the Welrod could be replaced. Actually, some of them worked very well, and were very quiet, see the videos I posted on the DeLisle, they just didn't see much active service, as once Overlord happened, well, not much need to be all that sneaky.

I was also thinking of the scoped Winchester, in as far as that can be treated as a 'sniper' rifle, which apparently wasn't sturdy enough to support having so many attachments jerry-rigged on while being intensively used.
I also love being silent. So I love suppressed weapons / silent sniper rifles! Welcome in the club
