Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut

first boss, Barrett
Am I doing this fight correctly? I cannot seem to finish him off.
I am avoiding his shots and grenades easily enough, and able to toss my grenades at him, get him coughing, then shoot him up. But 200 rounds of combat rifle, and he shakes it off. I also let him get near the red barrels and shoot them so they blow up near him. But he's still alive.
I can stay alive easily enough, using pillars for protection, but I cannot seem to finish this guy off.
I cannot hack the computer up in the office, also I notice a crate hanging by a rope in ceiling, does any of this come in to play?

Any tips?

Stun gun is your best friend there, imo. you can put him down with it easely. You just need ~20-25 stun gun darts.

I don't know what your aug configuration is like or what Praxis points you have available, but the Typhoon is the easiest thing for any of the bosses. Makes very short work of them.

The good thing about stun gun — you don't need no augs to use it.

In the back right (if I remember correctly) of the room is a ladder that leads to the scaffolding. I went up there a took him out from above with a sniper bullet to the head after I emptied a couple machine gun clips on him.

throw explosive barrels at him and it takes off most of his hp.

If you don't have the augs to handle something else it can be nice. I like the Typhoon because it takes up less room than the stun gun (or grenade launcher, revolver with exploding rounds, and other "boss weapons"). I've never cared for the boss fights in this game, so I prefer to skim over them as painlessly as possible and get on with the story.

Now it was almost too easy, lol.
I went up on the 2nd floor ledge, and he kept throwing grenades. I shot maybe 10 times with combat rifle, and he went down. So I'm guessing he was hurting himself with his grenades over and over.

Thanks for all the help

Yeah, I feel like I cheated a little on this guy, but hey... that ladder is there for a reason, right?!

my methods were to climb the ladder, get into the vent, move across his vision so he shoots out the panel in the middle, then just keep hiding while your HP regens and he will keep hurting himself with grenades, this is also a handy spot to throw them from too as you are higher up than he is

I shoot him twice with a Missile Launcher then he dies after a clip from the Combat Rifle for me

  • activate cloaking as soon as the fight starts
  • run to left or right side, climb-up the ladder
  • get into the vent, move to the open area
  • equip and wield the silenced sniper rifle
  • headshot that grenade-spamming idiot
  • hide at the corners when HP and Energy need recharge
  • be sure to deactivate cloaking when recharging it
  • be sure to activate cloaking when moving into the sniping zone

Shall the above tactic failed due to lack of ammo, or that idiot simply knew where you are ...

  • just wait in the corner until that idiot grenades himself to death

... or

  • hack the console on the 2nd floor office, open the door
  • activate cloaking, go down the ladder
  • from the 2nd floor office ladder, rush to the far side's newly opened door
  • there are some new toys around
  • hack the 1st floor console there, set the turrets to enemy
  • place the 1st turret at the wall-opening, and break that opening
  • pick-up the 2nd turret and walk around facing that idiot

alternatively - collect any frag mines you see along the way, I had 5 and was able to finish him in 10 seconds just by throwing all the frag mines at him. This is a convenient cheap way to kill the bosses, as it really ony takes a couple of hits to kill them, and you come across many mines throughout the game

You can kill him even without any weapon, just with fire extinguisher and explosive barrels, but typhoon is the easiest was to kill him.
