I just dont understand why anyone would want an inferior product lol
Naysayers will whine about many things just because there is something new thrown into their comfy world of mundane familiarity...!
The HRDC is awesome , buy it, play it many times!!
Everybody with common sense told them that if the filter was removed, the game would look a lot worse.
They complained until it was 'fixed' in the director's cut. To absolutely no one's surprise, the game looks a lot different. There used to be a way to remove it completely, which made the game look very similar to more traditonal grey shooters.
If you want the regular version, you could go through something like amazon or one of the steam key sites. As long as you have a key, you can activate it, play it, and all that other stuff, but you can no longer buy keys from steam itself. I don't feel it's worth it, personally. Less legal means are quicker and easier, and you'll find that the DX version offers quite a lot of things over the original.
The 2013 bug list you see thrown all over the place isn't really accurate, anyway. Both versions have different problems. For instance, the cloak and dagger quest in DX comes stock with strange audio, but the original version almost requires that you do a lengthy registery edit to make the ironsights work properly.
I'm obsessive compulsive and prefer to avoid directors cuts and enhanced editions of games since I hate the titles. I want originals within reason.
I've owned both the original and the DC version. The key difference between the original and the DC version are very basic. The yellow world tint of the original is gone, the BOSS fights are more manageable in the DC, and the DLC is integrated so the entire story plays out more seamlessly.
If you are counting registry fixes or other fixes that some people have had to do to optimize their game -forget it. So much of that has to do with drivers and hardware and not the actual game code. I have been very fortunate in that neither versions required much tweaking to play smoothly on my home built gaming rigs. Though the DC version the least of all, which has been pretty much plug and play except for some minor stuttering at particular points in the game. None of the so called fixes have been able to entirely remove that. It becomes one of those things many games have in them that become particular to them and yet we manage to add on hours of gameplay regardless. For myself I've long broken the DE- HR DC 1,000hr. gameplay mark.
My advice; buy the DC version and enjoy it. If you just can not enjoy the game... lose it, and move on. This wont be your first time. As gamers we have a list of games we bought and didn't like as long as the game list of those we loved. Just be glad it wasn't a tattoo. The pain will fade. :D
Rhetorical!
I was writing when you posted that earlier.
Enjoy the game.
