I hate "The Missing Link"! Spoilers*
This part had pretty much sucked all the enjoyment I had with this game.
Backtracking, poor level design, idiotic characters and even a freakin' saw cliche... There are just so many reason to share deep hatred for this dlc.
I wish there was a simple way to skip it all, mainly because my whole playthrough got thrown out of the window due to the previous state of your character - before this part of the game - being, instead of returned to the form before, dumped onto you with a pasted into the level locker.
Now don't get me wrong, I love the game overall. It's atmosphere, gameplay, plot, characters are all well-designed, unique and overall amazing, but that doesn't help me an inch within helping me like this dlc. It only helps to underline how boring it all is.
Let's review the characters. Mean conspiracy Irish man who is somehow being praised by Jensen (a guy who infiltrated couple kilometers worth of Tai Yong Medical Palace) for connecting an eye with a battery. The entire game at that moment attempted everything to make him seem cool, except giving him something that would make him actually cool. There was just some vague monologue at the end and something about making a rocket launcher - which I literally did in a minute or two because the three parts were so close to each other.
Second character is the good lady who beats you up at the beginning, but then turned out to be the good guy. Well, her character is basically Malik, except without good voice acting, actual realistic personality and a much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ motivation to do all this.
The bad guy with an accent. His character is that he is sexist. Why is he? I dunno, the only way you would know he is sexist is because there are background reports about him being sexist. Visible confusion? And because the good lady says he is sexist. He also enjoys talking through a microphone whilst everyone tries to gun you down instead of doing something resourceful. Oh, and how could I forget, he has a Borderlands style intro cutscene when you meet him. Because besides being extremely boring backtrack mission it was also a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ boss fight that had to happen before killing him.
BACKTRACKING. Man I love the fact that there are like only couple of rooms within the last section of the map constantly being repeated with same enemies except in different locations and with some walls put in front of them. Did I mention it has lots of loading screens in between that completely ruin the pacing and make you tremble with frustration and boredom (basically depression)? AMAZING. Why couldn't the whole dlc be like the first ship section, which was actually fun and interesting and not based upon backtracking? I DUNNO!
What else is there, rocket launcher which you wouldn't care about if you're going stealth like probably every third person playing this game.
The plot sux. It's inconsistent, cliche, dumb, predictable. The most infuriating element probably was the unnecessary good woman death, which felt unneeded and only added to add drama and tension to the game, which didn't work because she had as much character as that robot that exploded during the saving of Malik. There was also an idiotic CHOOSE BETWEEN PEOPLE OR EVIDENCE sequence, which was also ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid due to billion plotholes like: Couldn't we just open the doors, or something? Why didn't the hacker decide for himself, after all he was the one holding the most control in base, and it didn't lie within his interest to let Jensen save civilians so... Why use gas when you can just shoot these people? I didn't kill any of your men, you could still order them to just shoot stuff. How did an unaugmented woman kill five fully augmented professional mercenaries before dying? Why did I kill 8 professional mercenaries before I died? I was the stealth guy after all. Where were all the other scientists working on that station? I saw only two, and one of them left. Were they hiding behind the closet? Or were they not there at all? I swear, there are so many points I could make, this part had frustrated me so much.
I hope you can understand my gnawing hatred for this section, because honestly I won't be touching this game for the next week, due to how frustrated I became after this! I hope you other people can at least tolerate this, for I would wish not anyone had his amazing experience ruined by this anomaly of a level. To any dev reading this, I'm sorry but I just had to share my thoughts on this, I'm sorry if I had offended you but a level-head is hard to maintain after a binge playthrough of seven hours that were felt like spending on something completely terrible compared to the whole experience of deus ex.

As for the choose between people or evidence part, there's actually a chamber you can get into where you can destroy the gas machine itself, saving both parties.

Yeah, I found that out later, but the problem that I had was the fact that the first time you visited the location where the valve is, you can't see it, it only appears after the said mission begins. Making the player think that the location is irrelevant. Which is something that basically encourages the player to read guides and watch walkthroughs before trying to wrestle with the level him-/herself. I mean, if I was the dude making the game, I would at least put the info about the valve being there on some pad or a computer, so that it wouldn't be some unobvious crap and rather a detail that only a keen reader would catch on.

You're looking at it in the wrong way, you're going out of your way to seek the negative.
it is a great DLC and it's meant to tie in Human Revolution with Mankind Divided. It's to fill in the gaps and expand on the overall conspiracy.

Just finished the game, and i completely agree. It was a really frustrating DLC.

Just finished it and I knew I was going to find a topic with this title here :D
And yes. I hated it too. It's viciously annoying and looks like it was designed by a carrot
Im just glad I rallied some common thoughts on the subject. It feels bad to be furious alone, isnt it?

Well, it has a plus. At least for me. I went for that perfect stealth run, so I never used/tried any weapons. At least until the missing link. On the last third I got fed up with the overwhelming boredom and generous glazings of frustrating level design so I just said ♥♥♥♥ this ♥♥♥♥, ♥♥♥♥ that ♥♥♥♥ and ♥♥♥♥ everything in between, equipped a bunch of weapons and blasted my way through to the end. It was really satisfying with one particular enemy...

"Hey, remember an hour ago when I was waiting for a few minutes for you to move out of the way so I could sneak past you? Well, here's a bullet. And a few more, just in case."

Too bad that the game doesn't have the option to pass this part of the campaign, since it was optional DLC in the beginning. It's like the original game's retarded cousin.

The worst part of the DLC (and of HR in general) is that - once again! - your control over Jensen is taken away so you have to deal with a f***ed up situation.

Was laying inside some coffin REALLY the best way to get on the ship, infiltration-specialist guy?

Like just swaggering into the big hall for the first bossfight, turning your back on chinese lady, flying to shanghai a second time etc..

I liked the atmosphere of it though.

Imagine the surprise of many of us who played DX:HR in stealth and had to fight the boss face to face. I didn't even know how to fire a gun.

The cutscenes messing up your game is indeed very annoying. Go full stealth then smack in the face from first boss, then it happens again and again.

Actually it fills a hole iin the DX:HR story not tying together the two games, I still wonder how could be SQEnix so greedy pushed out the game with this cut out, upper hengsha doesn;t really miss seem Mary DeMarle filled the gaps in there well.

If that's what he wants to talk about, what's it to you?

Are you the bleeping forum police?

Missing Link was lame.. It turned into a tedious, overly long "dungeon" that was light on story and did the worse thing in game design imo.. Forcibly took away your powers, and made you "earn" your powers back..
