Getting the "upgraded chip"...
Someone please refresh my memory...it's been ~2 years since I played the vanilla version, and now I'm pllaying the DC. I remember that there are some consequences with deciding whether or not to go for the upgrade that is offered later in the game, but I can't remember what the pros and cons are.

I recall that, if I get the upgrade, my augs can be shut-down in one of the boss fights, but I can't remember what the 'penalty' is for NOT getting the new chip (if there are any). A quick refresher would be appreciated before I get to that decision point...thanks.

Nothing. Just the boss fight near the end.

take the upgrade = boss shuts off your augments during the fight
refuse the upgrade = boss isn't able to shut off your augments

??? So there's no penalty for refusing the upgrade? I could have sworn there was. OK...there must be some kind of advantage to taking it, right? I mean, if the boss can shut down my augments if I take it, there must be some benefit to doing that, yea? No? (Maybe I'm not remembering it correctly...I thought there was some kind of 'cost/benefit' whichever choice I make.)

Thanks for the response...:freebeer:

As far as I remember there is no penalty for refusing the upgrade except for the "seizure" like effect you feel a few times before leaving Hengsha for the second time and I don't think there are any benefits to taking the upgrade. If you snoop around enough (read emails, listen to radio and npcs on the streets) and pay attention to cutscenes, the game sort of hints at what the new biochip is actually meant for (especially radio and the first cutscene). Hope that clears it up a bit ;)

Thanks...yea, I sorta remember that there is an insidious hidden agenda concerning the new chip, and I've already found some info hinting at what it is. Appreciate everyone's responses...
