I love the idea of management/survival cargo running, but I'm so irritated in this game. So many annoying things. A lot of people have already voiced there annoyance with it.
I'm so irritated, I have an irrational thought that they should have already patched this game with some of the changes people have been asking for in regards to drain rates and such.
There are upgrades you can buy to mitigate the sparky storm damage. But I also agree, the station should be shielding you from it, curious decision for it not to...
We're not talking about flying through the storm. That I understand and have no issue with. It's the fact that you still get hit by the storm while you're docked with the station. Your pods will still pop while you're docked.
It's ok that if the storm zone change, but they need to make the docks a safe spot, otherwise it's just stupid.
Ok, gotcha.
Storm covering the Spark City station - can't dock there.
Arrived to New Aspen, storm covers the station - can't dock there.
That's life. It's a difficult game. You have to be well supplied. I would recommend the Driver difficulty setting- it seems to be more in line with what people are expecting from the game. But, in your example, if you keep jumping back and forth between 2 systems with storms, soon enough you'll be able to dock at one of them. Every time you jump, time fast forwards a lot.
I do think this is another spot where a functional bed with time acceleration feature would come in handy- seems more logical to wait something out rather than jump around spending fuel to pass time.
I do think being docked to the station should earth you though. Leads to fun game mechanics- trying to dock fast enough not to fry. Add some cool lightning discharge effects while you're docking and we're done :D
If ATS has tornado, it still not be safe under any garage. Just get out of there and comeback later.
Tho the game can't explain everything so most of the times are experience them directly or learn the hard way to actually learn anything.
