1. Don't lose a single combat (on Hard)
2. Beat the game on hard
For the first one: That sounds weird. There used to be a bug with that battle on the bridge (Iver-vs-Bello), but it was fixed afterwards. Did you use save-scumming to get there? Maybe you messed up somewhere along the road?
For the second one: Are you sure you switched to Hard *before* starting a new game? If you changed the difficulty while in the tutorial battle, it doesn't count. If that was the case, then maybe that's the reason you missed the other achievement too...
I know for a fact that I started the game on Hard. I changed it during the tutorial, and I remember how hard it was to fight that first battle with Valgard in your party. I started this play-through back in August.
It might actually just be my PC. It sometimes doesn't do something I want until I've restarted the damn thing. For example, The Wolf Among Us didn't play until I restarted my system, and then it worked perfectly!
That might be the issue. I'll go give that a try.
There's your culprit, right there... You should have changed the difficulty from the title/main-menu screen, and not after the game is launched (i.e. after the 1st intro video).
By the way, what changes from "Normal" to "Hard"? Is it the number of enemies, or the stats of the enemies also changes (Armor, Armor Break, Strenght) ?
These things change as the difficulty increases:
1. The stats (ARM and STR only) of all enemies are higher.
2. The average number of enemies per battle is increased.
3. The "rank" of some types of enemy-units if higher (e.g. you might now face Blue "Destroyer" Scourge, or Purple "Colossus" Stoneguard etc more often).
4. Knocked-down heroes require more days to heal-up from their injuries. Varl now require up to 6 days (instead of 2).
Regardless, Thank you.
If you're so troubled about (a) not getting those achievements and (b) having to play the game again to get them, then, Steam-friend me. I can help.
Still, you've been very informative, and I do appreciate that. And it's always nice to meet another fan of medieval fantasy. :3
Perhaps I'll throw in a friend request just for kicks.
Yesterday I also started my first attempt on a Hard Campaing!
So far I am at the middle of Chapter 3, Fasolt already joined my Caravan and I managed to get him on level 5 after 3 Fights, the third one chasing the retreating units.
It was kind of hard to just cripple the enemy with my other units in order to give most kills to Fasolt. Hakon, Mogr, Yrsa and Gunnulf were injuried on the fights (Yrsa and Gunnulf on both fights), but since resources is not an issue to Hakon Caravan, I can rest without any worry in the world.
In my opinion, getting Fasolt on Level 5 is a useful thing because he can carry the "Five Rings Necklace" to Rook's group relatively early on chapter 4! And since you won't use Hakon Caravan again after chapter 3, there is no need to save the Renown of this group (since the Renown, just like the resources, of both parties are independent).
Some can argue that spending renown on Fasolt is a waste, since he will leave the party on Chapter 5, but I think the Five Rings Necklace is a great item and it is worth it. And also Fasolt is a great addition to Rook's Caravan during his stay, and a Level 5 with a great item one is an even better addition!
I also try to get Gunnulf on level 5, but sometimes i won't have enough renown to do so (getting 14 kills on him is fairly easy, though). Since he will also join Rook's Caravan on Chapter 5, and will stay there till the end, the same logic of "let's spend all of Hakon Renown since i won't use it anyway later" applies.
It is hard to get Gunnulf to level 5 because after you leave Ridgehorn, you will not have another chance to level up your heroes. And you will only have a chance to level up after arriving there if you chose to rest, instead of leaving right away. This means you will need to knock-out Ludin or let him try his luck agains the Dredge Horde (which will kill him).
With this on mind, I am not using Ludin in my playthrough, since he will be out of Ridgehorn's last two fights (if i choose not to let any Dredge alive).
Hakon's core group is: Mogr, Fastold Hakon. Gunnulf, Yrsa and Erik, in this order. The Five Ring Necklace is with Fastold, my only level 5 unit. Everyone else is Level 3, except Gunnulf, who is level 4.
On Rook's side, I chose not to stay inside Frostvellr's Wall. I think I will have a lot of trouble going against 3 waves of Dredge on the beggining of chapter 4.The third wave is a struggle, even in Normal Difficulty! Maybe i will have to give up the third fight and the level 5 item, especially because Iver won't be around for the third fight.
I chose to stay outside because I really like Egil and I think the amount of renown I can get staying outside is greater than inside, despite not being sure I can win the third fight, and despite being sure we will starve after leaving Frostvellr.
Since we don't get an opportunity to level up my heroes before the 3 waves, they are all fairly low leveled. I would have the kills and the renown to level up a couple of them right away, but since there is no Hero Hall, too bad. We will have to endure the 3 waves the way we are now! Let's hope Egil will draw a lot of attention and get most of the hits in his hard rock form!
