Causing CPU to overheat
This game is causing my CPU to overheat. I have a GTX770, an AMD 8 core processor, 16 GB ram, Windows 7 64 bit. Definitely a problem with the game, I know others have had the same issue but I don't see that a solution has been presented.

My PC is 2-3 times "worse" than yours and not getting overheated. I mean, the game does stress the machine more than I expected, but nothing dramatic, really... Hope the upcoming 2nd patch addresses that, to some extent. I wouldn't be too optimistic as its probably the game foundations (being a Flash-based game) that causes those symptoms.

That's whatI was afraid of, thanks for the reply. It seems to overheat primarily during the part of the game when you're watching your caravan scroll across the page, at other points processor cools back down to 38 degrees. I have to watch my temp and quite the game before it gets too hot, not unplayable but a pain nonetheless.

Needless to ask that you don't have other programs running at the same time, or "strange" settings on your system, right?

Everything else closed down including antivirus. There are clearly leaks that happen at certainpoints within the game, for example it always happens during the caravan stage and in the town view, but if I go into the Hero's Hall the chip cools back down in seconds to 38 degrees. I was still able to finish the game though the experience was diminshed due to having to keep a constant eye on my CPU temp.

John (Stoic's technical director) mentioned that UI-loading was improved in the 2nd patch (to come "Soon" TM). Maybe that will address those issues you're experiencing; maybe not...

Hmm - will get John to look at this, but I'm pretty confident it shouldn't be anywhere near that extreme to cause overheating.

@satayasat does switching between windowed and fullscreen mode affect it at all? I'll run some profiling on these areas and see if anything jumps out at me.

Thank you for the comments. I have a significant cooling system and have never seen my CPU get above the low 50's (celcius) so I was surprised when this happened. I hope you get it figured out, I enjoyed the game, thank you.

hello, i think i have the same issue, do you find a solution?
Spectral Jun 29, 2014 @ 12:30pm
While not causing it to overheat I have noticed that just sat on the title screen The Banner Saga is using 75-80% CPU utilization on a Phenom II x6 1055t @3.5Ghz. Once I start the game usage actually drops to around 11%. Not played farther than the tutorial so far though. I've not checked with fraps yet but is it possible that some scenes inclusding the title screen accidently have uncapped frame rates? I've seen other games cause similar problems in the past where that has been the cause.

ok but how can we solve this? :)

edit : i experiment one thing, when the game put the loading screen and on a battle screen, the charge cpu falls down at 40/50% (it's high but it's ok, no restart). But, on title screen and on the city map, 100% :/

i think spectral2k is right.

edit 2 : after the answer of spectral, i tried another thing, i put v-sync on with ati driver so the fps stay at screen frequency (120Hz with mine) and, oh : the cpu usage stay at 90/92%
and, i put the screen frequency to 60Hz with ati driver again et second ooooooh : cpu to 45/55%
The game seems working!!!
"victory dance!!"

i will try for a couple hours tomorrow, now it's time to go to sleep :)
