How to get Ekkill without losing Egil?
as title says

Ekkill is a cool guy, but Egil is just as cool.

Only by modding (cheating)...

(1) Ekkill comes along only if you take Onef. But, if you take Onef then Egil dies...
(2) If you refuse Onef, then Ekkill doesn't join, and Egil is safe from them.
The only way to obtain the hardest achievement is by not going through the best plot twist. Good job....

You just have to make the right decision in a few spots, I wouldn't call it the hardest achievement...

Sure, call it whatever you want then. I assume you understood what I meant regardless.

You can still do that whole chapter and get those supplies etc. You just have to not let Onef join you.

Ultimately it comes down to what you want. A defense or Offense unit? Then there is the story. If Rook lives then Ekkil would probably be more ideal. If Alette lives then Egil may be more preferable for story reasons. But who knows. Having both would be awesome though.

The final boss fight already took away two fixed character slots. There isn't much room for an actual team building.

Sure, Egil is a great def character but anyone melee in this game can tank with str resist items.
Even without those items, player just need couple people can tank two swings from belower, not that hard at all.

Everything just comes down to story line choices, among which Egil's safety is the hardest.
Without wiki, I would have to play 3 ~ 4 or even more times to know how to not get Egil killed. Thus, this is the hardest one.

I just want Egil to live because he is a good guy.

On my second playthrough, I managed to pick up Ekkill and Egil remained alive until the end. Unfortunately I can't remember how! If I recall correctly Ekkill stumbled after the caravan some time later and wound up being taken in chains as our prisoner. I don't think we had Onef in the party at that point but I may be incorrect - in any case we immediately trusted Ekkill and released him to fight with us, and Egil stayed alive until the end as well. Sadly I messed up most of the rest of the party and am now playing through for a third time (trying to work out how not to let everyone starve..)

If you mange to keep Egil+Ekkill alive until the end, again, do tell us how :)

Well losing certain battles can kill off units right? I know some have plot armor but what if you recruit Onef and then lose a subsequent battle and get him killed, thus dparing Egil but also allowing you to keep Ekkil... Im pretty sure Onef is plot invulnerable. So is Ekkil once recruited as well I think.

This time around I kept both Ekkill and Onef in the party, and right on cue Onef did his dirty deed in chapter 6, so no Egil for me in Banner Saga 2. At least we all arrived at our destination happy and well-fed!

I think it was some quirk of the system where I'd managed to leave town without Onef (knocking him out or killing him perhaps?) and yet Ekkill had chased after us anyway, saying he "wasn't above begging", and we'd taken him prisoner before releasing him later.

Either that or a very specific set of conversation choices between Ekkill and Onef that allowed Onef to be dropped from the roster in advance of chapter 6.

I wish I remembered properly, but it was several months ago now..

If someone else has time to try it out, I suggest talking to Onef, listening to his suggestion to attack the storeroom, and then getting Iver to "shut him up" by knocking him out .. that might have been it. Perhaps a way to raise the flag on the supply issue without actually hiring Onef?

Ekkill and Egil being mutually exclusive has been a long matter of discussion in various forums for 3 years now. I would be surprised to find that there actually is a way to have them both alive, to the point that I'd think it's actually a bug (not intended!) :steammocking:
Giopeppe Jan 19, 2017 @ 4:57pm
Having lurked very deep in the files, if this happens, it's a bug, and a really unobvious one, because Ekkill joins only if Onef joined, Egil die if Onef joined and once joined, he could not be killed.

There are two little bugs that prevented the game to know Ekkill was dead in certain peculiar conditions, letting Nid and Iver referring to him as alive when he wasn't, but just in the dialogues.

If you could replicate this, please backup a save and exactly what have you done in-game.
