If I select 'New Game' on the title menu, will it overwrite progress in the current save profile?

Just started playing through this for the second time, and it took me a bit of exploring to work out how to not overwrite my previous playthrough!

It seems that if you click on Options on the title menu, then choose Load Game, it only lets you load from the current save profile. However, if you click Load Game on the title menu itself, it shows you the five available save profiles, and you can choose an empty one to start a new game and not lose your old playthrough.

This is all fine, but there's also the 'New Game' option on the title menu. If you click on that it jumps straight into the beginning of the game, without saying anything about which save profile you're using.

If I click New Game, will it use the current save profile I've been playing on, and overwrite my progress? (When I clicked this I didn't play far enough for it to reach a checkpoint, as I didn't want to risk losing my recently started game.) Or does it automatically pick the next open profile slot?

Shame there isn't a more clear "Choose Profile" option...

I am 99% sure that hitting "New Game" will launch it in a new profile, if there a clean one. If all 5 profiles are filled, it might prompt you to select which one to overwrite. I wouldn't worry too much, as the first save-game checkpoints are really trivial, i.e. there's hardly any options/differentation. So, start a new game, go right after the tutorial fight and then quit and re-load to check what has been done.

Note -- To get the "Complete on Hard" achievement, you need to set the difficulty to Hard from the start menu, before starting a fresh new game.
