I dont really know much about GOG, but youve already got Balatro on your Steam account, so why would you want to buy it on a separate store? Or does GOG have some other benefit over Steam?

Yes GOG has the fantastic feature of being DRM-free. So you actually own all games you buy on GOG, as if you bought the physical game in a store. You buy the game on GOG and have the option to play it independently from internet, client etc.. You own the game and nobody can take it from you.
If you are curious about GOG I suggest to inform yourself more than just reading my "explanation", it might catches your attention and you end up liking it as we do.

All games, except for Gwent, are DRM-Free on GOG. They also come with offline installers, that you can store on your HDD, or burn them to a DVD/Blu-Ray, etc.

GOG has a Steam-like launcher, but it is optional and not necessary to play your GOG games.

Even if GOG were to shut down, your downloaded games would still work. There is nothing and no one that can take your GOG-purchased and downloaded game away.

Here's a good video:

Steam games CAN by DRM free as well, which would put them in the same scenario here.

(And if Steam ever DOES shut down, there 100% will be either an official or MANY unofficial ways of getting around it. The sheer popularity of Steam makes it basically impossible you'll be unable to access your games in the future at this point as long as you have them downloaded).

Just because Steam games CAN be DRM-Free, doesn't mean that they are. Only about a thousand are DRM-Free on Steam, while a vast majority use DRM. Even Epic has a much higher DRM-Free to DRM radio than Steam. About 1/4 games are DRM-Free on Epic

Nor does Steam provide offline installers either, so you'd have to install every single DRM-Free game that Steam has and manually zip each up, while also noting down any potential dependencies that these games may have. GOG takes care of all of that.

Valve has no contingency plan for their shut down. Not techncially, not contractually with publishers and not contractually with users. GOG has a contingency plan in their user agreement and they have proven means of dealing with it too.

If I pay for a game, I should not have to resort to searching for cracks, like a pirate, just because some stupid store shut down. Game should be independent from their stores. They are on GOG, Zoom-Platform and Itch.io.

I pay for what I want (games), not what I don't want (DRM and mandatory launchers).

I would guess not for a while, GOG (as much as I love them) don't include any DRM in their releases so as soon as a GOG release is out there piracy must/could/may be rampant.
Many games on Steam are DRM free as well, specially indie games. Do you know wheter Balatro is in fact using any form of DRM?
Steam DRM is used accurding PCGM, so not drm-free

+1, that epic games store provite more drm-free games than steam alone. (And i dont get, why some people still sh**ting towards to epic games, while some free games can get drm-free aswell.)

GOG is anyway good, but Itch Io is same good as drm-free, which almost nobody mention that site :(

Even Gamersgate, which is much less popular has some DRM-Free Services.

zoom-platform, a sometimes GOG alternate has drm-free games aswell (Please use uBlock Origins here, as there are proviting too much ads)

You already bought it here. You love it so much you want to pay twice? That's cool
GoG often refuses to accept or release high quality indies without stating their reason why.

Not saying that happened here, but it's not like steam - you can't just decide "i'll be on GoG now" and get on there. They have to accept you, and they have inexplicably refused successful indies before.

I've heard it aswell. I know for sure that they have to accept your game, but I don't know if there are trusted cases of successful indies. I still hope for it tho.

Balatro is way too big for GOG to refuse now lol.

Also usually if GOG ignores them, but devs are interested, they tell us that GOG's ignoring or refusing them. Then we complain for a bit and GOG accepts.
