- Get a joker that gives X Mult
- Get a way to get mult up (either same hands + telescope + planets, or some other jokers)

That alone makes you win Ante 8. Then, with harder Stakes, you need some deck specialization on top of that; good seals, good cards, good build, that takes a bit of luck.

And if you don't get Mult Jokers, you don't make it far. How far you go and how long a run lasts it 100% down to luck in this game. Skill has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Jokers are the key to winning. It's the name of the game, quite literally.

A winning lineup of jokers for me usually consist of one chip boost, one or two mult boosts, then 2-3 x mults. And always good to have added enhancements to the jokers of course, whether they be chip/mult/xmult boosts. And make sure you have xmult jokers on the right so they act last. Of course this is not always possible as some of them act before the others regardless, but do the best you can with arranging your jokers in this manner.

In addition to getting good jokers I also like to focus on a strategy which involves boosting one particular hand by a lot of levels and then pretty much always drawing to it unless the situation dictates otherwise. I find the mid-level hands -- FH, Flush, Straight to work best for this. The voucher that makes your most-played hand show up in all Planet packs is very, very helpful, almost essential for this strategy.

I'm not big on spending a lot of cash enhancing cards, unless I have the Vampire Joker. I just find that only rarely does an enhanced card make a difference in winning or losing a round. Not saying you can't devise a winning strategy around this but it has never really worked for me.

Finally I would say don't skip blinds unless there's something you reeeeallly need or want. If you play through a blind you're going to have the opportunity to possibly snag a good joker, planet cards etc. as well as cash. This is usually much better than the single reward you get for skipping, with rare exceptions.

I don't know how many times I've gotten to the ante 8 boss by now, but the boss ability was so strong that it just crushed my previously great deck.
50 hours and I've only won two or three times. I'm getting fed up.

And if you don't find a Identify scroll in Rogue you might end up quaffing a blindness potion or reading an aggravate monster scroll, potentially ending your run... it's almost like the genre has certain mechanics that somewhat define it.

Obviously this isn't isn't your kind of game/genre, if being reliant on a drop table/rng and working with or around it is frustrating to you just stay away from the genre and play something else.

this game is fun since its always so random, some runs I crush it other runs I'm constantly flopping

i feel that tho. It was hard and frustrating in the beginning for me, but i came back cause its addicting. Since a few days now ive been starting to win really consistently sitting at 22 wins now and idk 25h. Here are some tips that helped me alot.

- Spectral card packs are ALWAYS worth going for.
- xMult > chips/+mult. Honestly most wins i always had 2-3 xMult cards
- Enhanced playing cards are normally of higher value then most jokers. (For example steel cards or glass cards have huge value compared to a low joker).
- Use tarot cards only for playing hands. What i mean by this is hold onto your tarot cards for when u really need them. Holding on to a tarot card that can change suits can help you out alot especially if luck is not on your side.
- Dont try to force a gameplan on you. When i started i looked at the decks and thought "Oh jeah this deck is probably great for doing this stuff ill try build this and that", and then in the run itself i lost on ante 5 because everything sucked. So instead of doing this, try to buy an early +Mult joker, doesnt have to be much just like +10mult or somethin. This then should carry u. in the meantime try to build out your deck, what i like to do is try to make all cards one suit and get more enhanced cards. Then when u reach ante 4 u should have encountered enough shops to now look roughly at your jokers and come up with a gameplan.
- Never skip blinds. Shops are probably most valuable thing in the game so u dont want to miss them by skipping. Skipping is only worth if it gives u more then 30$ or something, otherwise you are wasting a free shop refresh.
- Joker rarity is a lie. Their are uncommon and common jokers that are way more powerful then rare jokers so dont be fooled by blind skips offering u a rare joker, its not worth.

Ok that was alot. Hope u have fun and get more wins, stay strong

I had not won a single "game" before reading your post.

My first game after reading it is now at ante 11, I scored over 1,000,000 in a single hand, and everything is much smoother now.

Ended in Ante 11, round 28, coming shy of the 8.6 million needed.

Red deck.

The start is indeed very RNG heavy only on higher stakes imo. You can get to Ante 8 very consistently on base difficulty, and decently easy enough on red stake; it's a matter of having some sense of "Will this strategy scale enough for the first 2-3 antes so I can farm money/an end-game build"

imo, if your hands require you to get Full houses, straights, or 4 of a kind (or harder), it can get destroyed by bad luck - I've lost my fair share of runs on getting 4 pairs in my hand, discarding, playing every hand, and never getting a single full house. Pair/Double pair hands are very viable with tons of jokers and strategies, my last few wins were High Card / Pair builds with Bus / Supernova, so yeah, you don't have to find "good poker hands". It's not a poker game.

"No mult joker by ante 3 = you're done" : There's A LOT of mult jokers :/ If you can't find one in 12 shops with all the money you can get, you should check your strategy and adapt instead of complain.
A quick search on https://balatrogame.fandom.com/wiki/Jokers with "Mult" shows 87 occurences; some of them are doubled / not in joker description, we can remove around 10
that means 50% of all jokers are Mult and XMult jokers.

Last thing, about Boss Blinds : you can see them 3 rounds before they come in, so you can plan ahead. They are made to be against your build sometimes - I'm fairly sure they spawn depending on your strategy (if you clear a ton of Blinds with 3-4 hands, they'll give you the "clear only in 1 hand" boss).
You can plan around those.

Adding to those tips, some random stuff :
->> Some jokers only spawn if you did something specific beforehand :
- Cavendish (AMAZING joker for Ante 8 on all builds) only spawns if you destroyed a Gros Michel, which makes the banana something you always want to buy
- Stone joker (the more stone cards you have, the more chips it gives), Steel joker (the more steel cards you have, the more XMult it gives), Lucky Cat (everytime a Lucky card triggers, it gains XMult) : Those jokers - and maybe others I can't think off the top of my head - ONLY appear if you, respectively : got at least one stone in your deck, at least one steel in your deck, or 1 lucky card in your deck.

If you don't like those jokers : make sure you don't randomly use tarot cards "for the sake of it". i.e. don't use Stone cards if you don't have a build for them, otherwise Stone joker will appear and mess with your luck.

->> Make sure you arrange your jokers in a good trigger order (that's basic, but some people don't do that). +Mult -> XMult from left to right is a basic.

->> If you have a Tarot/Planet/Spectral card in your Consumables, or anywhere on the screen for that matter, IT CANNOT SPAWN AGAIN. Which means, if you have Judgement in your Consumables, and reroll the shop, or open an Arcana Pack, you will NEVER see a Judgement.
That can be used to manipulate RNG even more and get better cards.
If you don't want to see a Pluto, keep a Pluto in your Consumables.
