Any permanent upgrades or buffs somehow?
Just wondering if there's a sort of skill cap here. If I can't figure out how to get the best combos then I'm not sure I can survive very often past round 8-10. I failed at that first 4000-pointer.

no permanent upgrades besides unlocking jokers and unlocking vouchers, just a fairly long skill curve :P

Dang. I do enjoy the gameplay but I was hoping more stuff would like, help me. I'm just kinda coasting on Flushes cos it's like the highest thing I can consistently find.

It takes quite a bit of time to learn all the mechanics the game makes available to you. It took me 20 hours or playing time to get my first win. That's fairly common. It is one of those "easy to play, difficult to master" type of games. You need to learn how all the various Jokers, Seals, Card Modifiers, and Vouchers all interact with each other. In my most recent win the most often played hand was two pair -- played 30 times. Next closest was flush at 8, at least six of which were probably in the first two Antes.

i recommend u to start straying away from flushes, because big hands are a disadvantage as u progress. pairs/singles are more sustainable.
start playing with scalable jokers such as Square, Supernova, Green, Bus, etc. I rarely lose if I've got a scalable mult joker, a scalable chips joker, and an x mult joker.

flushes are okay the the first or second ante. you can win ante 1 without having a joker while using only flushes.

I'll try. I'm having fun. I got a bit further but so far it gets real dicey at the 40,000 blinds, when the jokers can't quite sustain the hands I pull.

If you are interested in a detailed description of how to play the game you should look up Balatro University on YouTube and try watching his Educational Series playlist. However, I'll warn you, these are not 15 minute "this is what you need to know" videos. They are 1-2 hour videos which go step by step explaining the thinking behind each and every choice.

I'm no expert, I've just worked my way up to Green Stake so far. Here are some tips:

1) You need to build an economy. Money is King.
2) Don't spend below $25 unless it is required to continue the run. You want that interest money.
3) You should only be skipping rarely and strategically. Skips cost you a chance at making money and a chance at a shop. The better players almost never skip.

Don't go into a run thinking "I'm going play XYZ hands." You need to play with whatever the game gives you. The game can be very tough the first 20 hours or so... it just takes time to learn all the different things you need to know. Additionally there is the small factor of playing unlocks more Jokers and Vouchers giving you more options. Technically you can win in a fresh profile, but it is less likely until you have been playing the game for a while.
