What's the point of Credit Card Joker?

It's the classic Hayek vs. Keynes debate in economics: do you avoid debt and save money to buy a thing, or do you go into debt to have more purchasing power? Western economic philosophy tends to argue the latter, especially by economists who live in a country that has a national debt measured in the trillions yet they still want to be paid.

In short, don't use credit unless you have a solid business case that the credit will earn you more money than your debt.

Put yet another way: the rich buy assets, the poor buy liabilities.

And Balatro gives you a very clear object lesson in all of this. Hayek-style penny-pinching generally works better because the game doles out plenty of money rewards as long as you keep winning. When you lose, your debt is erased, but so are you.

Keynesian debt-garnering can pay off handsomely if you purchase the right Jokers ASAP. If not, then you face a debt spiral that makes the game significantly more difficult, but the result is the same: you die. Unlike real-world mortgages, there is no long-term penalty for taking Credit Card because you don't pay interest on your debt*, and you can sell the card to recoup its cost.

*But you can't write off the debt interest on your taxes, either, if the mortgage is a commercial property that earns you money. Or at least I haven't tried writing Balatro off on taxes. It might be possible if you have an accountant who is shady enough.

I'm only aware of one joker that benefits from not having money in the vanilla game. Of course, others have mentioned that that benefit is actually kind of enormous!

Credit card is really useful in a limited ammount of scenarios ngll

It's "Vagabond", else your point is right.

While they are not strong enough reasons to buy and keep a Credit Card, it can also be fun when combined with Wraith (spectral card) or The Ox (blind) effect. Since those set your money to $0, with Credit Card it can in fact gain you money.

Well, at worst you have no idea what you're doing, go into significant debt, sell the joker so you go multiple rounds without any purchasing power, find yourself at Ante 7 with a face card build, the boss blind is "The Plant", you manage to get up to $-5, a negative luchador with the rental sticker appears in the shop, teasing you, mocking you, "look at me I only cost 1 and you don't even need space for me" but you do need to make space for it because your economy is ruined and you can not get it without wrecking your build, you try for the boss anyway and get murked, so you slam your fist into the desk in momentary exasperation, now your neighbour is yelling on your door telling you to shut the hell up, in the morning you get an eviction notice citing disruptive behaviour, you are unable to find another place to go to because our real world economy is more ruined than your in game one, your parents are disappointed in you getting evicted and refuse to let you into their home so that you "learn your lesson this time", you are now on the streets but you have no street skills and get ganged up on by Old Benny and his gang of crooks, they take what little you have on your person and leave you in the snowy cold (this is Winter time), you damn near freeze to death every night but you keep on hoping that things will change, but you've lost your job and your money and your family and your home and when you finally find someone that knows you from your past and is willing to take you in and help you out, as your crossing the road to get to their house and your new start you get hit by a drunk driver and break both your arms and legs and end up in Hospital on life support but you are still aware of everything going on around you except the Doctors don't know that and as such they don't prescribe you any pain medication and you live the rest of your days in agony because 65% of your bones are broken and your internal organs are pierced by your broken bones that are broken which is painful as you now know and you can't sleep because ouch owie the pain of the broken bones and squishy organs but you are all alone and not even the doctors are helping beyond the bare minimum life support and after 45 days of struggling because you are a fighter you finally pass on and gain peace.

But yeah, I mean you're pretty close.

If you skip the "25$ after winning boss blind" before the first boss blind in you max the credit card and get an instant refund

or like if there's a card you really want like an early blueprint and missin 3$ you use credit in early game and sell it when you got a better economy joker.

I rarely use it unless this very niche situations.
