Hieroglyph and its Upgrade
So, apparently people say that the Hieroglyph Voucher and its upgrade are like…REALLY GOOD. Am I missing something here? I don’t really see how lowering the Ante level can help, and the upgrade with one less Discard can especially be problematic when playing on Blue Stake or higher. Can anyone explain to me how these can be so beneficial?

it gives you an extra ante to find a good joker or to scale your existing jokers
I find the upgrade to be less useful than the first voucher

It depends on different factors. Some vouchers or Jokers may already give you addicitonal Discards or Hands, so getting that voucher would not set you back.

Going back an Ante allows you to replay rounds and blinds you've already won, so it's a good way to get more rewards before the boss blinds. Also the skip rewards might be useful, so that's another free thing. It could also help with leveling up that Joker that gains xMult for skipping blinds.

Any decision you make needs to be based on your deck and what you already have.
at least boss get weaker and work as panic button, especially the needle boss is reduce your hand to 1, so -1 hand penalty is nothing for round
You can use it if you really need a little more time before the boss blind, as it decreases the score. Though really the only time I'll take it is if I have a very strong scaling joker like madness/obelisk (or god forbid I'm relying on throwback) as a couple extra scaling opportunities for those is just too good. Would never recommend taking these vouchers if you don't need the extra time/if losing a hand/discard is concerning to you.
It seems situational, very worth it if you can afford to trigger it but it's a per-run choice.
Hieroglyph can take a strong foundation and make it a bit stronger - it's Robin Hood stealing from the poor and giving to the rich. It doesn't do much that's helpful if your foundation isn't already strong.

Each shop you visit makes your setup that much stronger. This includes getting money from playing rounds (interest, econ jokers, remiaining hands, etc)
Also, you get access to another voucher.
All of that is often (but not always) worth the -1 hand.
Gives you more time to become stronger and you get more vouchers,-1 hands and discards isn't that big of a deal when you're probably gonna get hand and discard vouchers later anyways.
You know how people say you should almost never skip? Think of these vouchers as doing the opposite of skipping. Three times. Yeah, there's significant caveats attached, but it's still very strong.
The reason they're good is because a powerful deck will one-shot virtually all rounds including boss blind starting around ante 5-6. So late game whether you have 4 or 3 or even 2 hands is irrelevant outside economy. Giving up a discard is more dangerous but by the time you're far enough to have purchased both vouchers you'll likely have done some significant deck fixing, unless they're your first two vouchers. So if for example you've converted literally half your deck to one of the same card and cut your total deck size down, then losing a discard is similarly a non issue much of the time.

There are some specific builds with scaling jokers, to do list, etc. that really want to play every hand every round and as such losing one early will hurt you a lot. But in those specific situations you'll know and intentionally skip the voucher.
3 more shops, 3 more interests, 3 more rounds to scale jokers/cards

It is often worth it yes
