I'm fine with Balatro not winning GotY.

But Liar's Bar winning for most innovative gameplay, that's weird. BS and lying games have been around forever. I played a dice game found in Liar's Bar more than 10 years ago in RDR. Good for Liar's Bar that they won, but honestly, I feel like all other finalists deserved it more in that category. Not saying Balatro should have won that either, just saying any other pick than Liar's Bar would have been more relevant, if it's really about innovation.

Balatro is a complicated accounting game. It would never beat a AAA group.

What got goty instead?

@TwinelyWix Black Myth: Wukong

I know I'm biased by my pfp, but was kinda surprised SM2 didn't take it. Would be curious to see the percentages of the votes.

Sm2 is okay but no way its a goty. Honestly not surprised about the wukong due to the amount of ***** who played it.

I think it's not fair putting smaller indie games against the BIG commercial games. They should do separate sections for voting. One section for big games and one for the smaller indie games.

Liars Bar is popular with Chinese users. It’s really not all that surprising when you think about it.

They make up over half of the world’s population as well as steam’s userbase. It’s the same reason black myth waking won goty. Filter reviews of both games by any language that’s not Chinese and you’ll see just how low the number is compared to their total reviews. It’s just the stats, that’s all I’m saying.

Now I’m not saying that black myth wukong and liar’s bar are bad games by any means. They’re certainly well made. But 3/4ths of both game’s steam reviews are in Chinese.

sure...
Its won SO SO many awards already, and im not saying just because its so popular it should have won. But honestly i am super surprised it didnt get any of the award spaces.

Also i hate that ports are allowed to be nominated lol But nothing to get upset over as i said, I wouldnt be surprised if theyve collected over 100 nominations this year and dozens of awards

I would agree that they should have a section exclusively for indies, but personally I would look at it being nominated against those games as a compliment, it doesn't matter if it had no chance of winning, I think it deserved a place on stage.

as to OP, Indie GOTY it would have my vote 100%, but as far as I am concerned the right game won. It fires on so many levels, Balatro is my 2nd favourite for the year, but it wouldn't win in a direct comparison, unfair as that is.

This is exactly how I felt. Also, while I've only played Balatro on mobile and not a Steam Deck, I feel like it possibly got slighted there, as well. I knew Black Myth Wukong would probably win big on Steam, since a lot of people probably didn't agree with Astro Bot getting GOTY at the Game Awards.
