Worst boss?
It has probably been posted before. Let's get a new discussion going.

Overall for me? The Flint - "Base Chips and Mult for played poker hands are halved for the entire round"

It affects *almost* every type of build and play style.

Early antes you can work around it. Later antes, this is a run killer, there are very few ways to get around this, except for hands that do not care about your current hand levels, which is not that common.

What is your worst boss in the game?

The thing is, it depends on which ante you are dealing with and how much buildup you got going. Didn't think much about the Flint, but yes, under some conditions late game it can devastate i guess.

In my case, The Wall would be a heavy contender (extra large blind), The Eye if you never built secondary options or cannot win games in a single hand, The Needle (only play one hand), now that one can be a real nuisance without a strong build already going, you pretty much must win with your first and only hand....

From the final boss blind, oddly only two are a pain in my opinion, Violet Vessel to a degree, and last one of course my fave, most hated, despised, strongly detested, Crimson Heart. For those that haven't experienced Crimson Heart, i won't spoil the effect, you just gotta enjoy it during your first encounter in all its crap glory

I've never been scared of The Flint. The base chip cut can hurt some because I often don't take chip adder jokers, but if you've got one of those, or foil or bonus cards, you can largely neuter that part. The base mult cut, similarly, is a joke if your main source of mult is mult-adder jokers, which mine always is.

The Eye can be scary if you're built into a narrow set of hands and can't one-shot it. (Like my latest run using mainly pairs with half joker and card sharp, though I pulled through.) The Arm less scary, more 'this is annoying and costly'. The Ox could break you if you can't score effectively with a secondary hand, though it's not necessarily fatal to eat the loss.

The Psychic hard-counters the half joker, which could be hard for some runs. Mostly harmless otherwise.

The Water has killed me when I had a run that needed a higher-end hand to score effectively, though it's not a problem for builds that use minor hands.

The Wall and The Needle are both usually not a big deal if you're doing okay, but The Wall gets harder if you've taken -hand effects.

The Plant is death on face builds, obviously.

Everything else I just file as 'annoyances'. The Pillar looks scary but usually isn't really. The Manacle might be a big problem if you've managed to accumulate a bunch of hand size reduction somehow.

Like many bosses, The Flint is there to keep you honest. You can go all in on planets and hand level from the start if you want, but then The Flint will ruin your day. Don't invest much in hand levels and The Flint is just a blank boss.

Needle can go straight to hell.

You want me to clear the blind in one hand? Okay, let's see.. discard... discard... discard. Well I'm out of discards and the game still hasn't given me anything good enough to win with. Guess I lose... on ante 7.

Yes, this just happened to me.

Honestly I would say the needle. Because no ammount of skill can save you vs this blind. It is ENTIRELY luck / RNG based. Just played against the blind with a fairly strong fullhouse build. I started the round with 2 aces and 2 kings. Hell yeah! I had four draws and thought to myself what can go wrong my odds are great! Plus I had some extra kings and aces in deck. Not a lot of extra but some like 1 or 2 for each. I drew FOUR times and Didn't draw one ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Ace or King once and RNG screwed my ENTIRE run because of it. I had a joker that makes my mutliplier go up every time I play my most played hand obviously which was full house. and all my other hands are low. So almost all of my jokers were built around my fullhouse, my planets were all stacked into fullhouse except for like 3 because of double pack, That is by far the stupidest blind i've encountered so far. I rerolled into that one which really was a nut kicker. Forgot what I rerolled was tbh. it was like you can't use something forgot what it was. That you used earlier in the ante. But yeah that one card and one blind destroyed the entire run and that was the furthest I ever got in this game. Might take a break for a few days i'm still seeing red. What a bunch of bull.

Next time you're in this scenario try holding a death or strength tarot card so you can easily manipulate what you draw into the hand you need if all else fails.

Probably a skill issue on my part but i REALLY hate The Fish.

The Needle is a small blind, though.

If you couldn't dust the Needle in one hand with all your discards, you probably couldn't dust the Wall in four either.

(Unless you're relying on Card Sharp, obviously.)

The Arm is the one I can recall giving me the most grief across Completionist++, but not dying to it no, but for the effect being felt across the run then after. Even if it's killed quickly, still wastes money and hands in the future.

Yes, but the Wall does offer a certain amount of leeway when it comes to bad luck. A bad hand can be balanced out by a particularly good hand.

With Needle, you can run out of discards without ever getting a good enough hand to win with. Then you're screwed.

Yes, instead of having 1+discards chances to get one okay hand, you have hands+discards chance to get four times as many points.

If your scoring strategy is so picky 1+discards not getting to score is likely, but so powerful that it will easily crush the Wall if it does score, that seems like a bafflingly bad build choice.

I'll take your word for it.

Maybe it's just that loses against the Needle stick out in my mind more. I remember more of them. I've had several Straight runs lose to the Needle because the game steadfastly refused to give me a Straight.

If you committed to a Straight run without having tools that make Straights reliable (mostly Shortcut), that's one of the things I'd characterize as a bafflingly bad build choice! You didn't have to bet the farm on Straight.

The needle and the wall are probably what give people the most trouble.

I think the fish is a lot worse than needle/wall as Burgler can resolve these bosses relatively easily.
