Just having it default instead to continue would be enough. Worst case scenario then is you need to back out and start a new one. But once you hit new run the continue button is gone forever even if you're just on the deck select screen.
A weird thing just happened when I opened the game, yesterday I did the same exact same thing and quit out by Alt+F4 and apparently that lets you continue the run when you start up the game again? I guess its a temporary solution or an "exploitable" bug, will have to see again if it work or not.
Probably the biggest issue with the New Run button is that there is no "Back" option - if you click on it, you're forced to start a new run. Closing and re-opening the game is the only way out of this since the game auto-save at the victory screen, allowing you to get back to Cash out and continue.
