Why do people keep saying 4 of a kind is top tier Joker/hand?

If you use death and fool cards it's actually quite easy to turn 50+% of your deck into the same card making 4 and 5 of a kind not only common but inevitable. It's a common high score run tactic.

Absurd planet scaling and simple to deckfix towards. Open enough tarot packs and you can easily play 5 of a kind as your primary hand before beating ante 8.

They're probably deckfixing, and there's several cards built around playing 4 cards vs 5 (square joker off the top of my head is one)

I wouldn't say it's the best hand but it is compatible with a lot of jokers.

it's the easiest high value hand to make reliable by deck manipulation, and you can lean on it midgame while building towards a more explosive lategame pivot like steel kings w/ baron high card using most of the same resources

Firstly, good planet scaling can make or break a hand. Straights are good almost solely because of Saturn being so strong. 4oak has the same power, and a higher base strength. Even a lvl 2 4oak is stronger than a lvl 6-7 pair.

Second, if you ever have a Joker that benefits around a certain rank, you change your deck to have more of that rank. 4oak comes naturally from that, since you have more of that rank and it's easier to find. Standard packs are great (because either seals or more of that rank), Strength doubles the amount of that rank in two tarots, Death is the best tarot in the game, etc.

In addition, this higher base score means fewer scoring Jokers are needed, and you can have more econ, tarot, planet, etc. Jokers, which then let you deck-fix more, until you win.

Why do people keep saying 4 of a kind is top tier Joker/hand? - It isn't for getting to ante 8. If you want to run through ante 8 to raise the stakes then you want something simpler that scores reliably sooner.

5 of the kind is best. But of different suits for this pesky bosses who blocks one suit. I got decent setup made using DNA and blueprint to copy aces while using tarot cards such like hanged man or death to get rid of other ranks. Even more glorious if you can copy many aces with red seal and in special editions. That can easily bring you up to millions chips. Surely is not game-breaking and easier to pull off than others. I still need to unlock all jokers.

Beyond 4 of a kind is five of a kind. Flush House is a Full House all the same suit. Can't remember if the game recognizes five of a kind flush.

It's not trivial to build into, and it's not worth trying to force, but if the game presents you with the opportunity then it is a good hand, and it gives you some chance at strong b-hands too.

It's not trash per se, but the probability of getting a four in a kind is indeed lower. That's why I focus on leveling up pairs and, if possible, high cards in combination with xmult jokers and a lot of steel cards. That's how I win most of my runs.

But there are ways around it if you focus on buying the same playing cards over and over again or by using 'convert left card into right' etc. That way you can increase your odds of getting a 'four in a kind' and using jokers that maximize this hand.

-4oak is easy to deckbuild, a single Ouja will give you 8 to 12 same rank card.
-Its base chip & mult is quite good, only a few level up needed to be strong enough to beat Ante 8.
-It's a base hand and doesn't require unlock, trying to build toward 5oak / Flush Five will dilute the Planet card pools and make it harder to pull (Unless you have Telescope).
