having one more or less discard or hand really does mess with your path to success.
See it this way. If you started a Black deck run with a free made up joker in your lineup that gave you "+1 hand AND +1 discard", you'd be in a very good spot. Such a joker does not exist, but it would be a decent joker in many situations, for any deck.
Black deck with that joker is Red deck. So you can 100% win with Red deck.
Whenever possible, buy also playing cards with seals and tarrot cards that can enhance your play, but you can do without them if you play your cards right (i.e. leveling up enough the hands you play mostly with). I won runs without them as a way to challenge myself, but why make life difficult if your aim is to just win a deck?
I primarily beat decks by leveling up Full House, Two Pair and Pair and using jokers that multiply these hands. Aside from that, luck will always play a part whether you make it or not. That's simply the nature of the game.
