Does that matter? Yes. If you have 2 hands left, no discard, with your only high scoring hand being a Flush and you have 4 Clubs in hand, you'll be very happy that the game lets you waste a hand of only 4 cards, even if it does not score.
Players always like more flexibility, not less. So play 5 card hands and everything will be fine.
Check your boss blind when you start an ante, see if you can roll down during the small/large blinds and find something to raise your hand size (like a a Turtle Bean, Juggler or Troubador) for that ante. It'll be somewhat difficult, but can be done.
EDIT: Finding a Luchador could be useful too, as you can sell it during the boss blind and disabled the boss blind's effects. Chicot legendary will negate boss blinds too, that is waaaay harder to find though.
Same thing will happen to you if you have a Merry Andy or a Stuntman joker, of course you can sell them and discard/redraw to get the hand size back (unless they are eternal, then you would be screwed).
Smth like that
The boss does what it says. If you aren't paying attention that's your loss.
In the demo it didn't even warn you with text.
