Hello Men;
Do you have the CRT effect on or off? Is the CRT effect harmful to the eyes?

Am I crazy or the reason we weren't allowed to sit too close to our CRT TVs or stare at them for too long was the actual radiation?

Sure, staring at any screen for too long wouldn't be great, but how does a digital CRT replication on an LCD/ LED/ OLED cause any more harm than looking at the same screen without the said effect?
I don't understand this either. In the past, people who had CRT monitors would demand to buy LCD monitors. Now, some modern games include CRT effects in their games. The reason is nostalgia. This is weird. CRT effects and monitors are more harmful to the eyes than LCD screens. Our fathers and mothers used to tell us this. How right they were.
Was technology better in the past? Does technology become obsolete as time goes by?
What? No they had a point.

I grew up with a LG Goldeneye CRT (this exact model: https://www.deviantart.com/dariusthekoopa97/art/My-Old-LG-CRT-TV-259472906), for reference.
I was around 16 by this point and everyone else had already moved onto plasma and then later on modern LCDs and early LEDs.

The CRT tech is based on shooting x-ray through a tube onto a glass that's covered with phosphor dots, and there's also lead int there to prevent radiation.

I'd trade all my screens to be back with my old childhood TV but even I can't deny why all that stuff is quite hazardous and why'd they tell you to stay away from the TV.

I suppose the eye strain from staring at a screen for too long hasn't changed over time, but there's no radiations coming off your PC screen these days.

A CRT screen effect on a modern screen is nothing but a visual effect.
It's not doing anything extra to harm your eyes, it's just some extra stylistic noise at that point.

What I'm saying is that I don't understand who thought the CRT screen effect would hurt harm their eyes and why.

You could argue that it'll make the visuals less clear and thus make your eyes work harder to make out some minuscule details, but is that what we're talking about here?

Our fathers and mothers told us to watch TV from a distance and they were right about this. Yes, it does less harm with LCD, but in the end, it is better and healthier to look at the screen less, whether it is LCD or not. Technically, the CRT effect may not do any harm, but I feel my eyes relax more when I turn it off.

CRT effects can improve the visuals of pixel graphics. Playing old games on CRT screens is part of why we remember old games looking better than they actually were. It's similar to the difference between watching a movie at 24fps vs 60+ fps. At a higher frame rate, you notice more issues with actors and CGI. Without CRT filter on, the pixel graphics are sharper and stand out more.

At the end of the day it's completely down to personal preference though.

i don't like CRT filter, so i turn it off .
I think it's a bad filter to often hide bad pixel art most of the time. gladly this game doesn't have bad art.
