I grew up with a LG Goldeneye CRT (this exact model: https://www.deviantart.com/dariusthekoopa97/art/My-Old-LG-CRT-TV-259472906), for reference.
I was around 16 by this point and everyone else had already moved onto plasma and then later on modern LCDs and early LEDs.
The CRT tech is based on shooting x-ray through a tube onto a glass that's covered with phosphor dots, and there's also lead int there to prevent radiation.
I'd trade all my screens to be back with my old childhood TV but even I can't deny why all that stuff is quite hazardous and why'd they tell you to stay away from the TV.
I suppose the eye strain from staring at a screen for too long hasn't changed over time, but there's no radiations coming off your PC screen these days.
A CRT screen effect on a modern screen is nothing but a visual effect.
It's not doing anything extra to harm your eyes, it's just some extra stylistic noise at that point.
What I'm saying is that I don't understand who thought the CRT screen effect would hurt harm their eyes and why.
You could argue that it'll make the visuals less clear and thus make your eyes work harder to make out some minuscule details, but is that what we're talking about here?
Play on a real CRT, or adapt to high def
At the end of the day it's completely down to personal preference though.
I think it's a bad filter to often hide bad pixel art most of the time. gladly this game doesn't have bad art.
