Game of the year? REALLY?

I have over 500 hours in Dragon Age The Veilguard (on EA APP) and I can confidently say that it's the game of my lifetime.

I have had more fun with that game than any other in the history of video games. The fact that it's not even nominated for game of the year just invalidates the entire Game Award ceremonies.

What a sad world we live in when Dragon Age isn't nominated for game of the year but a silly little card game like Balatro is.

I hope Geoff Keighley is ashamed of himself for this.

(Sorry for making such a long post. I've seen a lot of discourse between people about this topic and I wanted to try shedding some positivity.)

The game awards are pretty arbitrary overall in their decisions imo just because comparing all of these games is like comparing apples to oranges. Why are we comparing a card game to a souls-like, why are we comparing jrpgs to platformers. I think it is criminal that so few games are nominated and I agree that it is quite selective of what they pick, but this doesn't justify negativity.
From your point of view as someone who's never played Balatro you see it as just a card game. Whether you don't see worth in the individual game or genre as a whole I respect your opinion as long as you stay open-minded. From my point of view as someone who has never played Dragon Age The Veilguard I see it as just another fantasy strategy game, something I'm not particularly attracted to.
The disservice both of us would be doing by glancing over these games is awful. I hope you'd at the very least rethink your stance on Balatro or maybe learn more about the game if you haven't already, you might end up liking it.
Btw I'm gonna give Dragon Age a second look after this. :)

game awards have always been a joke. take last years how pizza tower lost to a game because that dev had friends in the judge team. that said balatro winning would be awesome given the garbage its up against. let a good game thats about jokers do what jokers do best. make fools out of everyone.

This year had nearly zero titles I care about. Outside unicorn overlord stalker and shadow generation. And a few rerelease plus expansions.
