Have no idea how to play - can't get tutorial back
On Mac M1. I really want to play this game. I bought it, started it up and had to quit for an emergency. Came back and there's no option to replay the tutorial. I tried resetting the profile, starting a new profile, uninstalling the game, and looking to see if there were any remnants in the directory where it was installed under steamapps. I did refund the game because I got mad it did that (this was a month ago or so) and ended up thinking I'd give it another try later. Just got it back and I still can't figure it out. I know there are probably YT tutorials on the game, but I'm more frustrated because I want to play through a tutorial and it doesn't have just a simple tutorial option in the game. Anyone have any ideas on mac OS how to clear out whatever cache there is that's probably causing this issue?

You can replay the tutorial as a seeded run. Just enter TUTORIAL

I just tested it and although it does start a seed with that name its not launching the tutorial. Apologies, OP.

The OP gives what seems like a way to do it.
Never tried it myself though.

And I don't know, it could potentially allow you to play the tutorial again but at the same time delete all your progress too? I know I would not risk it, but with 5 minute played, you have nothing to lose I guess.

I already knew it (possibly) wouldn't work. I saw a reddit post where someone offered this suggestion and some people responded saying it did not work. I appreciate you trying to help though, thank you.

I'm on a mac. Thanks for trying to help find a solution though.

If you don't find a way to replay the tutorial...

Start a game with the red deck. What are the important things on screen?

"Hands 4", you can play and score 4 hands per blind you face. Each hand you play can be 1 to 5 cards.

"Discards 4" you can discards up to 5 cards, 4 times per blind, to draw new cards. Normally you'd get 3 discards only, but the perk of the red deck is that you get an extra discard.

$4, that's your bankroll

Ante 1/8, you are at ante 1. For each ante, you have to beat a small blind and a big blind (optionally, you can also skip those) and beat a boss blind that has special effects. Beat ante 8 boss and you won the game.

Round 0. That number will be increased by 1 every time you beat a blind, it won't increase when you skip one.

Run info (to the left). Look there when you want to see what are the hands you can play and what their value is. Each hand has a base chip value (blue) and a base multiplier value (red). So for example, you should see that Three of a Kind base value is 30 (chips) x 3 (mult)

Next blind is a Small blind of 300 chips. You could skip it and get the effect of the tag associated to it, or select the blind and try to defeat it. First time, just select the blind and try to defeat it.

You are dealt 8 random cards from your deck.

You then pick 1 to 5 cards from those 8, and either discard them (to draw new cards) or play those cards. If you play those cards, the strongest hand they can form is scored. Each card scored adds to the base chip value of the played hand. Scores get added up, you have 4 hands to score at least 300 chips total and defeat the small blind.

You can hover/click the face down deck, bottom right, to get info on your deck or to know what cards you haven't drawn yet.

Beat the blind and earn money. You'll see the details on screen. Defeat it with hands not played to earn extra money.

You then enter your first shop. You enter a new shop after defeating a blind.

Shops offer you 2 cards for sale. Some are jokers that you can buy and keep. You get to have up to 5 jokers. (The 0/5, top left, is your joker count). Some cards are tarot cards, or planet cards. If you buy those they go to your consumable inventory, that's the 0/2, top right, or you can use them right when buying them too.

Jokers are very important. They are your main way to bend the rules or to make the hands you play worth more chips. It's up to you to get a good joker lineup. Jokers can also be sold, if you think you're offered better options than the ones you have.

There's also a voucher you can buy, for $10. Vouchers have an effect on the whole run. You can have as many vouchers as you can afford. Normally, you have the possibility to buy a voucher during all of ante 1, after each blind you beat. When you beat the boss blind, the next shop will offer you a new voucher.

Shops also sell packs. Pretty straightforward if you hover them.

The "reroll" button refreshes the cards the shop sells, but that costs you money. It does not refresh the voucher nor the packs.

Once you're done buying from the shop, click "next round" and try to defeat the next blind or skip it.

Those are the basics, it should be enough to get you started.

You can modify your deck, enhance cards, find special edition jokers, level up the hands to make them worth more base chips and base multiplier. You can find spectral cards that usually have a big effect. The end goal is to make it to ante 8 boss and beat it.

I'll subscribe to this thread, if you ever have questions.
Have fun.

The object of the game is to beat 8 stages (stage = ante) worth of blinds during a single run. Beating the boss blind for the current ante allows you to move on to the next ante. The higher the ante, the more chips are required to beat a blind.

You have a limited number of hands and discards to use per blind.

If you score enough chips to win a blind before you run out of hands then you beat the blind and move on to the shop. Like in other roguelikes, the shop is where you buy stuff (like jokers) to enhance your run.

Jokers are the main source of synergy during runs. They're not the only way to increase the payout of a hand but they are what you'll build your run around.

That's the game in a nutshell.

Beat a blind > go to the shop > buy stuff or don't > move to the next blind > repeat until you either lose or clear the boss blind at the end of ante 8.

Doesn't work.

I ran into this issue on my Steam Deck and got the tutorial back by disabling Steam Cloud, deleting all saved data for the game. Then when you start the game it will think it’s the first time.

You can disable Steam Cloud for the game through Steam. The saved data will be wherever the Mac has it saved.

To find the correct folder you’ll probably need Balatro’s Steam app ID, which is 2379780.

It's really easy, all you gotta do is hit the poker hands to get points. Click on "Run info" to see which hands give how many points.
