- Unless you happen to be playing the deck that earns no interest, try to save up and keep your gold around the interest limit if you feel you can do it without risking losing to the next boss. Getting $4-5 extra interest every blind is basically the equivalent of an extra booster pack so it can really help you improve your deck over time as you play.
- As a rule of thumb I aim for at least one Joker that reliably earns extra chips, one Joker that adds to the multiple, and one Joker that is an X-times multiplier. It's certainly possible to try and win without all three types of Jokers, but having all three makes your hands a lot more reliably good. And to that end, I'll tend to prioritize getting Foil, Holographic, and Poly Jokers since they respectively give you +50 Chips, +10 Mult, and x1.5 multiplier every hand on top of whatever else the Joker does in its base ability. Simply having all three of those types is on its own going to be a good basic combo to enhance whatever else you're doing.
- Speaking of multipliers, note that cards (including Jokers) always trigger left to right in their tracks, so if you have a card that is an X-times multiplier try to remember to have it at the right end of the track so it triggers after all the +Mult effects go. Your score will be much higher if you do, for instance, +10 Mult followed by x2 Multiplier then if you do x2 Multiplier followed by +10 Mult. This tip works for X-times Jokers, Steel cards in your hand, and also for Glass cards that you've just played, always slide those types to the right.
- Once you start getting some Jokers and/or Planets you'll probably have a type of hand that scores you a lot of points. For instance, maybe you have a Joker that scores a lot on a Flush, or a Joker that adds chips or multiples when you play even cards, etc. If so it's usually better to Discard cards that don't sync with that type of really good hand so you can make that great hand the one you play. Those really great hands tend to score many, many more points than even two or three or four mediocre ones, so it's worth spending your Discards or, if you run out of Discards, your first Hand or even two getting a great hand that can win or almost win you the round outright.
- To that end, when discarding to get a better hand, it's almost always better to pick the hand you're hoping to get that has the best chance of coming up and discard as many cards that you don't need for that hand at once than it is to keep more cards for two different possible hands and discard less. Your probability of getting what you want is almost always higher the more cards you discard. For example, say you have an 2, 3, 4, 5 and also K, Q, J, and 10 of various suits, plus a 7 and an 8. With those in your hand you could either try and get an A or 6 to finish the low straight, or you could get an A or 9 to finish the high straight. You might be tempted to only discard the 7 and 8 and hope to get either straight, but your probability of getting an A, 6, or 9 in just two cards is typically lower than, say, discarding the 7,8,5,4, and 3 and trying to get the A or 9 in five cards. So in general when you're discarding you should usually be discarding four or five cards every time to improve the chances of filling one particular combo.
Other than that maybe watch one or two youtube videos to see how people play and what you might be doing wrong
Try and have a mix of +chip, +mult, and xmult jokers, make sure the xmult joker is all the way to the right for max value as jokers trigger left to right.
Make sure you are managing your economy properly! For every $5 you have (up to $25) you earn an additional dollar at the end of rounds.
One scoring joker per ante is a good rule of thumb that will also make it easier to manage economy.
These are the big tips that got me from basically where you are to having a few decks through gold stake. Good luck!
