I don't remember the upgrades offhand, but if the Flush adds more chips the difference is probably made up there.
Also... they seem about the same to me, and Straights might be considered better because it's the cards in order, not the cards in a suit, which might be slightly lower odds. I don't know the exact math.
Even with that difference, I'll go for flush before straight any day of the week.
Straights are inconsistent to play across a round despite the greater probability of an initial draw. It's pretty cool to make it scale faster to 'hit' harder to make up for the risk.
Flushes are easier to draw after subsequent hands/discards and it's easier to manipulate the deck to make them more common and score better. Can be coincidence that it's a better hand to play overall, so it wouldn't need to be buffed with a better planet.
