Would be nice if there was more than one other Joker that had synergy with low or negative money.
It cost me an otherwise glorious run because the micromanagement to keep checking how many times each hand has been played is something you're not used to doing in pretty much every other situation, and the one time you need to make sure you play a different hand to not reset the xmult on that damn thing is the one time you didn't need that to happen.
So it's Obelisk.
I'd go with this.
On average, I'll give you that Idol is not very good for the regular "beat ante 8 and win" run.
However, there are exceptions. My craziest run was on orange stake, green deck. To beat the ante 7 boss, I scored a hand worth over 100 billion chips. Of course, you need very special conditions for that to happen (I had Idol, DNA and Blueprint), but it did happen. That was unseeded.
But if you go endless, then Idol is one of the best jokers.
The thing to know is that Idol selects a card, with higher odds of selecting cards you have multiple copies of. So if you have 50 cards, 10 of which are Kings of Spades, the Idol will select King of Spades 1 in 5. If all your deck is Aces of Diamonds, then the Idol will always select Ace of Diamonds. That's why it's so strong.
Just to clarify, Credit Card isn't exactly "free", it costs you a Joker slot. You won't be able to use that slot for a scoring Joker without selling the Card, but if you sell the Card and you're still in debt then you won't be able to buy anything until you get out of debt.
Mind you, I agree with you that Credit Card can be useful, particularly on the Green Deck, but it does have a cost.
